The track number 7

#1 Post by Nickname »

Hum, it's interesting to see the "standard" psb albums (Please, Actually, Behaviour, Very....). I've always seen the track NUMBER 7 in all their albums is one of the best. Of course, it depends on what kind of songs you like most but I think so.

Please - Tonight is forever
Actually - It's a sin
Behaviour - So hard
Very - The theatre
Bilingual - A red letter day
Nightlife - Radiophonic
Release - Love is a catastrophe (in this case, I talk about the feelings of other peple not me. I don't like LIAC).

Pls. take this as my answer, I obviously got
the other topic wrong by naming my favou-
rites instead of the ones I find weak, brill. Image

Two hits with N°7 then ...

I need to hiccup during all their number five tracks, and compulsive ballscratching appears during all number nine tracks, how strange is that?

Agreed, this is amongst the best tracks, although there are sooo many awesome tracks on this album.
Actually - It's a sin
Second-best track on the album for me.
Behaviour - So hard
Second-best track again.
Very - The theatre
Oh yes! The best track on Very!
Bilingual - A red letter day
Not even close this time around.
Nightlife - Radiophonic
One of the weakest tracks for me on Bilingual.
Release - Love is a catastrophe
YES! The best track on Release.

So two winners and two runners-up for me - not bad for the #7 tracks.

My faves:

Please: Track #1: Two Divided By Zero

Actually: Track #2: What Have I Done To Deserve This (very close call - all four singles are about even for me here)

Introspective: Track #5: Always On My Mind/In My House (Extremely close call - both I'm Not Scared and Left To My Own Devices could just as well take the honour).

Behaviour: Track #2: This Must Be The Place I Waited Years To Leave (by a landslide, I might add)

Very: Track #7: The Theatre

Bilingual: Track #1: Discoteca

Nightlife: Track #12: Footsteps

Release: Track #7: Love Is A Catastrophe

So tracks #1 and track #7 are even with two wins each. Overall I'd say that fpor me the #1 are better.

I'll have to settle on two per album, mostly.

My faves:

Please - Why don't we live together? / Two divided by zero

Actually - I want to wake up / What have I done to deserve this?

Introspective - Domino Dancing / Left to my own devices

Behaviour - This must be the place I waited years to leave / Only the wind

Very - The Theatre / Dreaming of the queen

Bilingual - Discoteca / Up against it

Nightlife - I don't know what you want but I can't give it anymore

Release - Here

One thing that I've always liked is the fact that each PSBs album normally has a sort of 'introductory track' at the beginning. They're still songs, but they have a long intro (Like one more echance or being boring) or set the scene in some other way (like divided by zero where you're running away). Most of these tracks wouldn't work so well in the middle of an album.

As for track seven...well, in the old days of tapes, track seven would be the second track on the side b. So where the first track on Side B might also be a scene setter, the second track would be to get things really going...like having a strong song as the second song on Side A. That's one theory, anyway...tracks like Violence don't really get things going (I LOVE that track, but it's not an adrenaline song).

I think generally (but not always) bands put a strong single at track two or three on the album). Makes sence really.
Good evening PASADENA!!!!!!!!!

My favorites:

Please: West End girls (#2)
Actually: It's a sin (#7)
Introspective: Left to my own devices (#1)
Behaviour: This must be the place I waited years to leave (#2)
Very: Can you forgive her? (#1)
Bilingual: It always comes as a surprise (#6)
Nightlife: Boy Strange (#9)
Release: Here (#8)
"Unprofessional? Us? Sir. Might I with due respect remind you that Mister Vandemar and myself burned down the City of Troy? We brought the Black Plague to Flanders. We have assassinated a dozen kings, five popes, half a hundred heroes and two accredited gods. Our last commission before this was the torturing to death of an entire monastery in sixteenth century Tuscany. We are utterly professional." - Mr Croup

#1 vs #7:

Please: Two Divided By Zero vs Tonight Is Forever (or shouldn't it actually be Violence? - surely the short Opportunities reprise shouldn't count). Two Divided By Zero wins either way, although Violence is close. 1-0

Actually: One More Chance vs It's A Sin. It's A Sin wins. 1-1

Introspective: No #7, so this doesn't count. A bit unfair for #1 since Left To My Own Devices is such a kickass song.

Behaviour: Being Boring vs So Hard. So Hard for me here. 1-2

Very: Can You Forgive Her vs The Theatre. The two best tracks on the album, but The Theatre wins. 1-3

Bilingual: Discoteca vs A Red Letter Day. Easy win for Discoteca. 2-3

Nightlife: For Your Own Good vs Radiophonic. Easy win for For Your Own Good. 3-3.

Release: Home And Dry vs Love Is A Catastrophe. Massive win for Love Is A Catastrophe. 3-4.

So #7 actually beats #1 contrary to what I wrote earlier.

In most of cases, the first track of the albums (from other artists) usually is the best one. But that I wanted to say is the importance of the track #7 in psb albums (probably is an accidental thing but it's is curious, isn't it?). Anyway, this thing is something that not always happens.
