NIGHTLIFE sounds like late 90's dance music... (of course)... it was released at that time.

Although I loved the last one RELEASE, I don't think the boys will make another pop-rock album... mainly because external pressures.

I think RELEASE is a big improvement on NIGHTLIFE (in terms of lyrics & music).

Maybe FLAMBOYANT, MIRACLES and DISCO 3 pointed the direction. I think the new album may followed in that direction.

Don't get me wrong. The thing I want to say is if you thing PSB are going to include any song similar to "left to my own devices" or "my hand over my heart" (the Marc Almond song). Amazing pop songs with orchestral arrangements..

Oh yes please. For me, Left to my own devices is one of those PSB songs with that really special sound to it, as does alot of Marc Almond's Tenement Symphony album. Late 80's style electro pop with orchestral arrangements and a dash of graundeur - the perfect type of music for me

Since the times and music have changed... and, right now, the "modern electronic bands" I like are Ladytron, Goldfrapp, Air, Jay-Jay Johanson..., I hope they don't copy themselves with a Left to my own devices 2 and go on on the direction they pointed on Disco3, Flamboyant, the last tour and the Battleship Potemkin ost.

I disagree. Disco 3 is actually 'retro' in the sense that it returns to the electro sound they used in the 80s but that doesn't make it dated. Left to my own devices is just a huge OTT pop song which works because both the melody and lyrics are wonderful and is only associated with 1988 because that's when it came out. Motown records still sound every bit as wonderful as they did in the 60s but James 'my life is great' Blunt's chart-topper sounds as bland now as it will in twenty years time.

To me Left to my own devices is Pet Shop Boys classic trademark.Even Neil says in this "Debussy to a disco beat". That sums them up. A blend of classic music with a synth-pop/techno result.

I have always considered Left to my own devices the best psb single, but that doesn't mean I want a ltmod2, because that would be ridiculous. If I want to listen to ltmow, i just put introspective in my cd player. There's no reason to copy themselves since there are millions of new tunes to be done.
I think they have a chance to do that new GREAT album we have been waiting for ages (although i liked release), and I am sure they will, simply because i love everything they have done since release came out. Anyway it can still be their graveyard maker and last album, since they are able to do the best and the worst. ^^

The thing is some of us would prefer something new but with the same quality they had in the 80's (and the early 90's). And we miss a little bit their "golden days" and the quality of Left to my own devices.
I think most of us don't feel the same hearing "Battleship Potemkin" or "Release" than the first time we heared "Left to my own devices".

Left to my own devices is timeless and in many ways the definitive PSB song. I hope the new album is full of tracks in the same vein - think Can you forgive her? too - with lots of fabulous things going on in the background, a killer melody and excellent lyrics.

I don't like U2's Vertigo very much so I have my doubts about it.
