Legal trouble? ZYX-cd features West End girls 1986 version

I heard the West End Girls 2005 remix that's available on the new remix cd, released by ZYX. Weird enough, this new remix is NOT based on the original 1984 version, but it's obviously based on the 1986 single version, produced by Stephen Hague.

This makes me wonder. Is ZYX allowed to use the 1986 single version of West End Girls? I think the rights for this particular version belong to PSB Partnership and EMI/Parlophone, and not to ZYX.

Will ZYX get into legal trouble, or is this yet another 'Paid Show Boys' case? (Explanation: this looked like a bootleg release of the West End Girls remix by DJ Hell, but was in fact a totally legal release)

This remix is definitely based on the later 86 Stephen Hague version, which XYZ does NOT have the rights to. I have no idea if ZXY got permission to use the 86 version, but I doubt it.

As for the "Paid Show Boys" question... if this is so (as in the DJ Hell case), then why did XYZ not get the master tapes of the 86 version... so they could use the proper vocal tracks? DJ Hell clearly had the original master(s)... this remixer does not.

My guess is that it's a screw up. The remixer used the wrong track.

This could be fun...If ZYX could finally get a slap for shamelessly exploiting that track.

I agree. I'm sure Redman will take note and point it out to PSB Management.

Me neither. Even some of the remixes on the bootleg-cd 'Very Remixed' are better than these mixes. ZYX is shamelessly milking those old tracks in an awful way.
