(No Regrets was a fluke)
Hardly...there's also: Feel, The Road To Manderlay, Angels, She's The One, Supreme, A Man For All Seasons, Karma Killer, Better Man, Mr.Bojangles and Love Somebody. That's at least 11 killer tracks - not many artists in my book compares favourably with that.

Fat Dancer's okay in comparison to the likes of Lee Ryan but that's damning him with faint praise. No Regrets is a fluke because it wasn't written by the boys and yet it sounds as PSB as one-word album titles.

Feel's a decent song (well done Guy Chambers) and Supreme a catchy re-working of I will survive but for the most part he releases dumb rabble rousers like the execrable Rock DJ or saccharine ballads.

It's a relief that they aren't working with Robbie, most of his songs are bog standard M.O.R apart from No Regrets and Feel. The publicity they would have gained wouldn't have done any harm but their credibility would have been effected.

You've got to love this lyric from 'Kid's' though :D

I've been looking for serial monogamy
Not some bird that looks like Billy Connolly
everytime i hear those lines i double up...brilliant
pity the boys couldn't do something along the same lines eh!

"I've been looking for serial monogamy

In what way would their credibility have been affected considering Robbie is very credible?

Well how many good pop songs has he made? How many dull M.OR ballads has he made? Do the music press see him in the same light as the more respected bands? Didn't he used to be in a boy band? The list of why he isn't credible is endless......

Definition
credible
adjective
"able to be believed or trusted"

How many artistes would this actually apply to?? Belief in an artist is one thing (I for one believe that Robbie is extremely passionate about what he does and that HE believes in it) but would you trust him - hmmmm. :)

I think we're barking up the wrong tree here. Love him or hate him Robbie is a major star and working with him would have done PSB no harm at all. After all, who would it have p****d off? We are their fanbase and I doubt any of us would have boycotted PSB for working with RW would we? And they may well have picked some new fans, or at least triggered some memories from older fans by working with RW. I say it would have been a good thing - but that's just my humble opinion.

Have a good weekend

I see potential in Robbie but he consistently releases rubbish aimed at a mass market. 'Radio' was a bit daring but was hardly the synthpop track he had claimed it to be. He is a decent performer on stage, I just wish he would think with his heart and not his wallet. Saying that, I think Stephen Duffy is a great song-writer and may improve future songs and think if PSB had worked with Robbie the results could have been fantastic.

He has released tons of good pop songs. Angels, Millenuim, No Regrets, Supreme, Rock DJ, She's The One, Feel, Radio to name a few.

He has released only a couple of a M.O.R ballads.

Who cares about the music press?

So was George Michael and he's the definition of credibility.

He simply is a credible artist, the fact that you don't like him doesn't change the fact that he just is. Longevity and consistency in commercial success is what credibility is all about. And Robbie's been a mega successful soloist for 10 years now. He's an adult audience mega star like precisely *any* credible artist these days.

I'm sorry, I can't see how working with Robbie would have hurt PSB's credibility. PSB were credible up until the mid-90's, they've been 'not as good as they used to be' ever since and their last studio album was FAR more M.O.R than anything Robbie has ever released.
Does cameos only.

Release was a bit M.O.R but I don't think Robbie has released a song that had the depth and loud guitars of Birthday Boy. Most the songs you mention are a bit M.O.R, She's The One is dull but wasn't his song, so that doesn't count. I'm not a big fan of chart music so my opinion on Robbie is bound to be different to yours.

If Robbie doesn't have a little bit of credibility like artist, I don't know who can have it (Pet Shop Boys apart, of course).

Bands like Radiohead, Blur, New Order, The Smiths, Beatles, Kraftwerk are the sort of bands who inspire. When you hear something like the recent Arcade Fire album you know they are going to respected for years to come. Robbie shifts records and fair play to him, but your not likely to hear someone make something fresh and exciting and then say "We were listening to a lot of Robbie albums recently and he inspired us to create something rather special".

It depends on you and your taste in music, I think.

No, but neither you'll hear that about Radiohead or Blur. You will hear that about everyone else on your list because they are all bands from 20+ years ago. You don't know if Robbie will be name dropped as an influence in 10-15 years time by bands. Most probably, he will be.
