Good to hear the soundtrack again after the the night at Trafalgar Square.

On hearing the music again, it strikes me how influential the following have been: Vangelis, Kraftwerk (goes without saying I guess!) Jeff Wayne, Michael Nyman, Jean Michelle Jarre, Air, John Barry and Im sure others on producing this work.

As I've said in another thread John Carpenter sticks out a mile on Night Falls, and After All has a John Barry sound. Not sure about Jean Michel Jarre. According to one of the questions Neil had regarding Oxygene, he'd more or less he wasn't familiar with it was I thought strange considering how many copies it shifted and that he was a music journalist.

Can't hear Jeff Wayne, but I suppose there's a hint of Red Weed somewhere.

For me Men and Maggots is very 'Jarre', Full Steam Ahead has a Barry/Wayne influence. Drama in the Harbour has strains of Vangelis...

Im not complaining.......its great to hear composers influenced by others. Although Im wondering if its the orchestrations by Trosten Rasch that are responsible rather than the melodies by the Boys.

As for Neil saying he is not familiar with Oxygene...isnt that like saying Im not familar with the Eastenders theme tune?! Anyone of a certain age will be have heard Oxygene many many times!

Much of the soundtrack sounds like Orbital to me.

There's loads of stuff in there like Hybrid and Leftfield too.

Yeah, I can hear Leftfield too. I actually think that Nyet and The Squadron are perhaps their 2 heaviest dance tracks yet. I actually think John Barry could sue them for the strings used on 'To The Shore'!!

There is a part which is pure Tangerine Dream too. I hear definite influences from TD and Jean-Michel Jarre. In less obvious nods there is a synth sound in the second half which reminds me every time of the beginning of Irene Cara 'What A Feeling'. There is also quite an obvious sample of Rauhofer's Roxy Anthem mix of I don't know what you want but I can't give it any more. I haven(t bought the CD yet so I can't give you the names of the tracks I'm thinking of.

I agree but I'm sure he claimed something along those lines during one of their Q and A sessions on the offical forum. The point I made was I find it strange that considering Neil seems to know his music and along with an awareness for contemporay/modern/classical music of different genres, especially electronic, that he either hadn't heard Oxygene at all, or wasn't familiar with the work of Jarre. I can accept it, I just find it strange, that's all.

With Men and Maggots, I notice a hint of Bacarach as well, that 60's lounge approach.

Past year, Joey Negro did a remix for the old track "Change" by Tears For fears. Many times during this remix, you can hear "exactly" the same electronic sounds at the beginning of "Ater All"....it´s really weird...

I found myself thinking about Jarre the first time i heard "The Squadron"

I can think of Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Vangelis and Ennio Morricone. John Barry or Air? Not at all. They would have done something completely different.
