Stock, Aitken and Waterman influenced Being Boring? In what way, doesnt sound like their style?

Neil and Chris wrote Being Boring copying SAW's writting style i.e going from one thing to another from the verse to the chorus, without the verse/chorus theoritically being a logical progression of each other, by changing the key for the chorus -lifting it one semi-tone higher than the verse- and using the classic SAW chord change, usually refered to as The Chord Change for the chorus. That's the standard SAW writing style.

I don't refer to it as 'baklava' though I've been told it's very sweet indeed many times.

My vote for "the perfect English pop album" would go to Actually. It's diverse – from One More Chance to King's Cross it draws a perfect arc from drama to beauty, it's varied and diverse but still maddeningly consistent, it has a proper theme that feels natural and not forced on the material, it has Dusty Springfield and Ennio Morricone on it plus it has the grace to include my fave ever PSB song (Rent) on it. Shopping and Hit Music might be a notch below the other stuff on the album, but still they are much better than the weak points on Very (1+1=5, 1 In A 1 000 000) or Behauviour (...Seriously, Nervously and I've never liked My October Symphony), which to me are their 2nd and 3rd best albums.

'To face the truth' is a truly wonderful song, with a touching sentiment.

If you want filler, see 'How can you expect to be taken seriously?'. What a load of ill-advised crap that was. And putting it on Behaviour? Ghastly choice.

Yeah, I find the album version utterly ghastly. I do think the single version of it is a big improvement tho.

And what's more, I've never understood why they dropped the far superior Miserablism from the album at the last minute, because it seemed too sarcastic for the album. Like ...Seriously wasn't sarcastic at all.

Behaviour would have been far better if they had replaced To Face The Truth and Nervously with We All Feel Better In The Dark and Miserablism and the album mix of Seriously wasn't so embarassing.

I think 'spiky' was the word Neil used

The songs on Behaviour were (to me) smooth and sensible (like), and Miserablism (inspite of it being a great song IMHO) just doesnt fit in....

I've grown accustomed to the running order so How can you expect to be taken seriously?? feels perfectly natural now though Miserablism would certainly have suited the mood of the album better. Ultimately I love each of the albums up to and including Bilingual which though two tracks too heavy is as wistful and reflective as a sixth studio album should be: "life is much more simple when you're young", "and if I decide to step aside."

Saturday Night Forever hinted at the reluctance of Tennant to leave the dancefloor but Nightlife's genius moments are forever tarnished by its' kitsch id. Release is a lesser Behaviour.

Release does not exist. I refuse to acknowledge it as a sovereign PSB album.
