I Want To Wake Up

#1 Post by Undertaker »

Just a little question about the song thats kinda bugging me a bit.

Neil sings ''Song's like Tainted Love and Love is Strange.''

Now, is he talking about a song called 'Love Is Strange' because i've not hear of a song called that. Or is he talking about love being strange?

Off to bed.

I remember there was a lengthy discussion about this on Introspective some years ago. As it happens, there are several songs called 'Love is strange', so which one Neil is referring to (if any in particular) is difficult to say.

A quick search on Google reveals songs by Mickey&Sylvia, Buddy Holly, Wings, Peaches&Herb, Kenny Rogers and Everything but the girl (though the latter two seem to written after 'I want to wake up'.
It was a cough that carried him off. It was a coffin they carried him off in.

I used to wonder if he meant 'Strange Love' by Depeche Mode but had to change the word order around.

Didn't realise there was a song called 'Love Is Strange'.

One thing's for sure, it wasn't the Kenny Rogers version he meant!

I always thought he sang:
"Sounds like change of love and love is strange" which made sense to me back then... :)

Both songs are from the 60's in the Actually booklet, the original lyricas also included "yesterday."

The most famous of all the Love Is Strange songs is the Mickey & Sylvia one. Peaches & Herb did a remake of it. I would guess it's that song.

I'm pretty familiar with the Everly Brothers big hits and I'm not convinced they ever did a song by that name.

EVERLY BROTHERS - LOVE IS STRANGE
(E. Smith; M. Baker)
Warner Bros WB 5649

Love, love is strange
Lots of people take it for pain
Once you've got it, you never wanna quit
After you've had it, you're havin' awful fits
Love is strange, love is strange

Hey, Don?
What, Phil?
How would you call your baby home?
Well, if I needed her real bad, I guess I would call her like this

Baby, oh sweet baby
My sweet baby, please come home
Yeah, that ought to bring her home, Don!

People don't understand
They think love is money in the hand
Your sweet lovin' is better than a kiss
When you left me, sweet kisses I miss
Love is strange, love is strange

I'm sure Neil said 'Love is Strange' was a tragic love song by the Everley Brothers.

Being as Gloria's and Everley's singles were released within a year of each other it is safe to asume that it was indeed these two songs.
