Taking things seriously

Summer entertainment is set to take a serious turn with the premiere of the musical Seriously in January. Part of the Midsumma Festival, the musical reinvents the songs of the Pet Shop Boys and stars ARIA award winner and Bachelor Girl Tania Doko, Paul Ross from Mamma Mia and Maria Mercedes from Sunset Boulevard (above). Tickets for the event, at Chapel off Chapel, from January 25 to February 12 can be booked on 8290 7000.

I find it weird that they are doing this musical in Australia and not in UK or Europe in general. Do the PSB sell well in Australia?

Not really. We're just bored.

I think it's mainly because the success here of shows based on ABBA and Queen songs is influencing some writers and producers to reinvent the songs of other artists in a similar fashion.

That said, Seriously is actually not a musical (despite the press). It's a cabaret.
