Stealing Video-
Here in the Castro SF I am used to seing trillions of European "dance" remakes of every song since 1980. I don't have a problem with that- although remaking "Holiday" with a bunch of idiot models strikes me as the height of pointless rape of other peoples' creativity.
Tonight at Badlands I saw a video -called "Dancing" or somesuch-
where they literally stole the go-go boy footage from "Paninaro 95" and put it in their own video, without attribution.
I was ASTOunded- they literally stole the footage of the male dancers in P95 and just put it in their own video.
Wow. Am I being oversensitive here? It strikes me as the height of -theft! that some music act would steal footage that way.
This was NOT some creative caprice on the part of the DJ- it was a slickly packaged promo video-
Really bad. I've no doubt this is unauthorized- crap song and video- but I can't believe people would steal TONS of footage of the male dancers in Paninaro 95 and put it in their own commercially distributed video and pass it off as their own.

well thats really outside the issue. its really a bad business thing. you have to give credit where credit is due.
on the otherhand one only have to listen to the PSB themselves in interviews and they are forever saying how they took something from some classical piece or something and incorporated it into one of their own songs. I suppose it depends on how tolerant the various groups are.

How do you know they didn't pay to use the footage. Did you expect a banner at the end of the video saying "featuring footage from Pet Shop Boys Paninaro 95"? Were all the musicians who performed on the track credited?
My point is you're being way over sensitive. the height of theft? Personally I thought the blatent rip off (microsoft? cant recall) of the P95 single cover artwork ("Passion Love Sex Money") in a print ad was far more offensive.

Because the video was way way tacky and low-rent. It was cheap with lots of titties shaking everywhere.themgnt wrote:How do you know they didn't pay to use the footage. Did you expect a banner at the end of the video saying "featuring footage from Pet Shop Boys Paninaro 95"?
No I don't have a written affadavit that PSB didn't authorize this shit video.
It was the most ghastly sexist P Diddy piece-of-shit video ever.
If PSB authorized it- and I hugely doubt they would, it's so tacky- then never mind. But I really would despise them for doing so.
But i really don't think they'd authorize it- and it would truly be a new category- "used footage"??? Wtf?
You think Neil would approve of taking PSB video footage and placing it in a tittie video? For money alone?
Nah. No. No no no.

Yeah, probably!Arent the boys rich enough?
If you've got the gumption to do it, I'd e-mail all the relevant info from the video (song title, artist name, production/release label name, etc.) to the offical PSB site and let them take it from there. They don't seem to always know what's going on either, but it seems to me to be the best way that the Boys would get wind of any piracy.Because the video was way way tacky and low-rent. I WOULD expect to see at the end of the video something along the lines of "selected clips in this crap tittie video courtesy of Pet Shop Boys Partnership", or something along those lines...
