Is there anyone who thinks Nightlife is the PSB' best album?

Definitely not. The last four tracks spoil it for me. Boy Strange, In Denial, New York city boy and Footsteps are all not only rubbish but rubbish in a totally different way to each other, so the endgame is totally scattershot. The first 8 tracks (bar Happiness Is An Option) are up there with anything they have done though.

I like this album a lot! In fact the only song on Nightlife I don't care much for is 'Boy Strange'. SO it looks like it is classed among my FAV albums, although not my MOST favourite.

It's interesting how everyones taste is different. I remember when Nightlife came out that I thought it was kind of a letdown. The only songs I really liked at first were "drunk" and ........."happiness is an option". I remember wishing that they would release it as a single becuase I thought it would do well here in America.

Well, as the years have gone by, Nightlife has grown on me, and I now think of it as somewhat of a classic.

Footsteps is a brilliant song and I do like New York city boy

I have a distinct dislike for HIAO. New York city boy stinks to high heaven, 'Boy Strange' is a bit ropey and I prefer the original 'In Denial' to the one that I can take or leave as is on the final album.

Otherwise, I think the rest are either very good or excellent tracks. I've always really, really liked 'The only one', apart from when Neil sings the 'I wanna be' over and over.

Nightlife is an absolutely brilliant album. When I first heard it, I didn't really like "For your own good", it grew on me as hell, though, but now the only song that kind of puts me off is Boy starnge, because of the weird beats in the beginning of the song. But as soon as Neuil starts singing the first verse of it, it turns into a good song, too. New York city boy is, as we all (almost) know sheer brilliance, Footsteps is a great love song, regardless of its simplicity, and I, for one, REALLY love Happiness is an option, as you can see in my nickname. Period.

It's probably my least favourite PSB album, but it does have a few great tracks.

I don't understand why so many fans slag off New York City Boy for being camp or 'too gay' yet Go West doesn't seem to get the same criticism.

Is it just nostalgia because Go West sums up a time when they were on top of their game?

I don't see the gay thing in New York City Boy. Perhaps the video but not the lyrics of the song.

No, Go West is just miles better than New York city boy.

Also i do not give toss what sounds or comes across gay, i like a song for what it his.

These 2 tracks are just camp a bit to me

I have heard some people say they should have went with "happiness as an option" as a single as its more hip hop, but I dont recall many hip hop songs with a gothic sounding choir and lyrics about weather in russia and one thinking they dont suit their face. it wouldnt have done well.

New York city boy would have actually sounded better with a more camp arrangement. oddly on the one song you'd think they would go full throttle gay is the one where they held back.

Everything going on in Happiness Is an Option his amazing really.

Not my type of sound but this track is perfectly put together.

Also non fans would have loved this if it had been a single.

But it's one of them tracks almost impossible to sing live, so no wonder it wasn't a single in the end.

Or the fact that resembles Village People; or because it's a man singing with great happyness about a boy.

Funny track, if you ask me. I liked the melody so much in Nightlife era.
But no, Nightlife is not their best album in my opinion.

I think that the nightlife PSB is pretty much the kind of PSB we will be seeing till they stop recording from now on.

you know,modern sounding,electronic sounding,with strings on some tracks.
thats PSB.

I also love how each track is so diverse from the others. not to start the usual boring war between other electronic bands but other groups CD's in some sense actually suffer because their CD's are too consistant in sound over all.

yet the PSB can do a creepy sounding hiphop/orchestra song like vampires and then go to a sort of rap hybrid like happiness to a countryish song like drunk.

you really dont get as much diversity from other groups.nightlife pretty much sums up PSB for me.fundamental so far going by descriptions pretty much is nightlife the sequel production wise.

they played happiness at the nightlife show I went to. it wasnt on montage though. they simply used the nightlife backign track rather than redo it like the others. rap style songs suck in concert cause you cant rap quietly like you can on a studio CD.

if you do it live it just doesnt come across loud enough hence why all rappers tend to shout their songs in concet.

I myself can't say that it's their best album ever for the best one I think is Behaviour or Very but for me it's their best work. Absolutely different songs (just take In Denial and For Your Own Good) but all of them seem to work together and I think it's the most conceptional album, one song fits another. They all are different but look great together. One of the strongest dance beats (for example, I don't know what you want but I can't give it any more [PSB extension mix]), great music style. And absolutely great design from their costumes to the design of the album, the Nightlife font etc. Everything fits on it, and looks great together.
Maybe New York city boy is the only thing that spoils it a bit. It's a good song but doesn't fit the album or at least the place between In Denial and Footsteps.
For me it's their best work though I love all of their albums and none of them seems weak to me, all of them have their strong points. Bilingual and Release are also great, though people usually hate them, I love them both, but I love Nightlife most of all.
