It's not single material as good as it is. The general single buying public in those days would have left it in the store. It's also not really a radio (1) friendly track.
Perhaps SKYradio would play it but that wasn't isn't the PSB goal.

Erm... you are mistaken!
The B-side of 'It's a sin' still is 'You know where you went wrong'.
'Hey headmaster' is the B-side of 'Can You Forgive Her?'!

hey headmaster is one of my alltime favorite PSB songs.
its got an interesting lyric, great chord changes,harmony vocals and its the type of song the PSB does every now and then that surpises you.

I remember hearing it for the first time and those drums thru me off I was expecting something heavy or dark but then this beautiful and pretty song emerged.awesome. I would love to hear them do a montage style version of it where they do it in concert and update it music wise.

I think you can compare it to Being boring. Not the lyrics of course but the musical sound. The general public didn't like it (BB wasn't very big compared to other PSB tracks around that time) but it was a fan favourite. Both songs still are.

Yes, it's still one of my favourite b-sides and - like being boring - has aged very well. It isn't single material, though. It's also similar to Liberation and the Violence Hacienda version - both are songs I never get tired of.

It's not my favourite PSB track ever, but it is a good one. It's slightly strange, musically and lyrically and has a killer bass line!

Never a single though. Not mainstream enough.

Great song, but therefore not fitting with the camp/disco songs off Very then single. And at the time when PSB were making great dance songs, it just doesnt seemed to fit.
Yo, Mr. Dopeman, you think your slick;
Ya sold crack to my sister, and now she's sick.
But if she happens to die, because of your drug;
Im puttin' in your culo, a .38 slug!

well they did say in the booklet that came with alternative that they were in the idea of making the B-sides a reaction to the A-side. they said they felt more free to experiment, hence why they sound different from the dance stuff of very

Great song... It is my fav psb song!

I like these lines

There's a crisis rumoured in the school
The boys have cut their hair short to look cool
Examination time is drawing near
Disintegration of the football team
No one seems to want to play for real
in classroom, club or pool
Hey, headmaster, what you gonna do?

I've always thought that it's a great PSB song. It's quite a contrast to Can you forgive her and I appreciate that much. The lyrics are fine and it has a strong melody as well. Especially the line "Examination time is drawing near" is something I understand very well at the moment. ^^

About 90 per cent agreed! I also like these
lines and the song itself but it's not my fav
one ... :wink:
