Je t'aime...moi non plus OPINIONS

#1 Post by dannii »

I'm here since mid-February and I haven't read anything about this track here.
So, I'm really, really, really interested in what you guys think about it.
I have it for few years and it's still the most weirdest thing PSB did; at least to me....
It's a cover, it doesn't contain neither Neil's or Chris's voice, it's full of moaning and yet it's credited as Pet Shop Boys track... :?
But, considering it all - I really like it and I think it's actually cool but if I only I could know why they did it. Was it Sam's wish or what?
Anyway, write your honest opinions; I'm really curious... :D

P.S.

I've found a review on Jase on Pet Shop Boys about it and it says this:

Code: Select all

"Je t'aime... moi non plus" (which means "I love you... me neither" in French) is a remake of a Serge Gainsbourg song. It's an embarrassing track that could best be described as phone sex in a disco. (Not that I have ever experienced that!)
do you think it's embarrasing for Neil & Chris?

It's great, but the moaning I could do without.

I don`t like it, I`ve only played it twice and that was enough for me. I don`t like the original version either but the boys version just sounds too over electronic and space like. It would be more suitable for the background music to pac man or space invaders back in the 80`s. Thumbs down for me on that one, but it doesn't beat if love were all, hate that one the most.
Cat...

I think it's great. I'm not a big fan of cover versions unless they take the song into a new and interesting direction and the PSB version of Je T'Aime certainly does that.
Passion, love, sex, money, violence, religion, injustice and death. More on that story later.

It's OK for me but...
Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder covered it as part of the Thank God It's Friday pack in 1979 and it's a 15 minute slice of brilliant mid-tempo disco. Very sexy.

I had suspicions about that high falsetto part being neil but for some reason I decided it wasnt him in my mind.

also that weird sounding voice sounds just like the voice that is on an AIR song.I didnt know much about this track in case someone says well it was a cover of an AIR song.
its ok,I am more fascinated by the arrangement.I like little abstract sounding electronic things like this sometimes
