A few quotes from the online edition of The Sun

ROBBIE WILLIAMS is secretly recording a dance album – and plans to release tracks under a false name. The singer has already been in the studio with dancefloor favourites the PET SHOP BOYS and also MADONNA’s super producer WILLIAM ORBIT.

.....The Pet Shop Boys are hot property too, doing a belting remix of Madge’s past single, Sorry, and with a new album of their own, Fundamental, out next month.

Robbie Williams Recording New Dance Album To Please Gay Fans

Robbie Williams is recording a dance album- to please his gay fans.

The 'Let Me Entertain You' singer has reportedly hooked up with superstar producer William Orbit, who previously worked with Madonna, to reinvent his sound.

Robbie, who is rejoining former band Take That for their Manchester homecoming gig, has also recorded several tunes with the Pet Shop Boys and top New York DJ Mark Ronson.

The 36-year-old hellraiser wants to make a "Kylie-style" album with more pop and dance tracks, and turned to Orbit, who reinvented Madonna with her 'Ray of Light' album, to mastermind the project.

The singer, who collaborated with Kylie Minogue on their hit 'Kids', wants to debut his new sound under a false name before launching the album in August.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Rob's last album, 'Intensive Care', was much more rocky with heavy guitar riffs. Some people around him felt it might not have appealed so much to his camp pop audience. So he has decided to do a dance album."

So he does his albums based on making hits in the club scene?

whatever happened to making music that YOU(the artist) like?

The PSB NEVER did anything based on what their audience might think... they kept experimenting, Bilingual, Release,etc..

You're quite right... that's what I always liked about PSB and never understood about other artists.

Here's the latest update, I found in an article on Robbie touring in Australia -- courtesy of The Brisbane Courier:

The next Williams album may even out-pop Madonna. He's moving in a new territory – dance. Williams is working with dance producers William Orbit, Mark Ronson and Pet Shop Boys on a "secret" dance album due as early as September.

"We've done two songs with Robbie," Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant says.

One is a new song, one is an "obscure" cover.

"It sounds like Robbie Williams with the Pet Shop Boys behind him," Tennant reveals. "It sounds really good. We haven't really written with anyone before. I've not heard anything else on the album, but he told us it's an 'electronic/dance' album."

However Williams is quick to note he won't alienate fans.

"Fortunately for me and my record company I have populist tastes. I want to make records with big choruses. I want to make anthems. I'm obviously not shy to want to be in the pop charts. I find it fascinating when bands claim to not make music for the pop charts, to not make music for people to buy. That's great, just f---ing play it to yourself you silly (expletive).

"But I also want to branch out and do something else, see if I enjoy that. The Pet Shop Boys get to write with Liza Minelli, Dusty Springfield, Kylie Minogue, as it stands I've done eight Robbie Williams albums."

Well we know they have done two tracks as Neil confirmed it. One is original and may be a single the other is a single.
