The intrusive r is what bothers me... CasanovaR

Must be deliberate, I've never noticed Neil talking like that before.

Casanova In Hell is my favourite track on Fundamental. I love every bit of it, including the "e"-word.

I don't have a problem with "erection" in the song- it is referred to in a number of songs in today's age, though in other words...

...I'm more put off by "rape" than "erection"......partially because Neil uses a rhyming dictionary too much in that song.....but mostly because of "rape"....

Indeed when I first heard it I was like "dream of rape?! what kinda of weirdo is this Casanova!"

The erection part just made me laugh especially with the violins scooping down after.

Maybe we all have ot wrong here, maybe the Erection is a shed or something for Casanova's garden and the local council refused permission to build it, that's why he couldn't get an erection..Damn you local authority

CroMagnon wrote:I adore Fundamental; it's beautiful. But Casanovia in Hell is torturing me. I want to love it. I love the melody, the music, the arrangement. But I just can't get over the fact that the word "erection" is in there. An alarm rings in my head that says "no, no, that word should not be in a pop song, let alone a beautiful ballad like this!". (I almost wrote that it "sticks out like a sore thumb" there . . .)

Surely, Neil could have found another way to write it? Throughout the album he uses politiical contexts without actually spelling it out, and yet he can't do the same for male erectile dysfunction?

Am I alone here, an old (30-ish) prude who should just get over it?
hehe..i'm a 23 year old prude who feels the same way. but i actually don't like the song to start with...so the lyrics only put the cherry on top.

i've only heard the song ONCE so far. and that's proably as much as i'll ever hear it. the first thought that came to my head was, hrm....say i was to play casanova to my dad...(he likes psb) lol.

The inclusion of the word erection is supposed to give you a jolt - it is so unexpected. I love the droopy strings after the line "he couldn't get an erection" - hilarious.
Prick up your ears.
