I'm with Stupid - 6 track promo CD

#1 Post by Padster »

Guys and Dolls, does anyone know which are the real ones and which are fake. I've had a number of different people approach me to buy these and each one has had a different printed insert.

One says copy protected and EMI logo, another just has the usual parlophone logo and list of mixes and no copy protection (but this one has a hand written label).

I have seen a photo of a printed sleeve version, does anybody know what kind of quantity this was produced in? I have the 3 x 12" set so I'm not really bothered but if I can get the genuine CD at a good price I probably would part with my cash.

The only one worth buying is the printed sleeve version. CDR promos (even authorized ones) are merely copies and not actual releases.

I got one from a friend who works for a Dutch radio station. He got a copy for himself too. He told me the guy from the record company had a box of them with about 30 copies, which I found a bit hard to believe.

Anyway, I'm so happy to have this CD. And mind you, it was FREE! Here is a picture of me with the CD :-)

I have another question, is it possible to copy or make a copy protected cdr?
I have the 4 track promo and it is copy controlled and does not play on my pc and am wondering if this means it must be real ie they cannot be made on personal computers.
Any help?
I have a copy of the 6 track cd on its way but I don't know if its in a company sleeve or the arrow sleeve. I got it from a very reliable source so I'll get back to you with the inner sleeve details.
Also I would think the printed sleeve edition is not that limited (300+ or something like that ie New york city boy/ I dont know what/ Drunk CDRDJX cd's) but these cd's are always hard to find at the beginning which is why they are selling for rediculous prices at the moment.

You should be able to rip the audio with Exact Audio Copy.

It's not that I mean, my question is can anybody make copyprotected cdr's at home?
If no then does that prove it is a genuine promo?

I can't make cds with a data track at the end, but I can make a cd with a data track at the beginning and audio. Hence when you put it in a PC, all you see is files - not the audio structure. Unless you use a ripper.

Why do you include CDRs in the discography when they're not "real" releases?

They r 'releases' ('products'), however, I guess.
Worth to be mentioned ...
