TSAGS - what's that about?

Is it a story of someone who left isolation (the back of the garden so to say), enters the "real" world of love and violence and is happy about that?

I find the lyrics kind of in contradiction (at least if supposed to be sung from a point of view of a normal person) - how can anyone not regret to (voluntarily) enter the world of death and destruction? Somewhat confusing.

I get a sort of New York city boy vibe. Someone, just like Neil, moving to the "big city" with all its temptations.

Hm, but is it just let's say artistic license that the song is quite optimistic about a mixed (love, instruction / death, destruction) topic?

Well I can see that they obviously did this kind of thing in the past, but here I'd expect some kind of "But..." to be said.

Or is the interpretor trapped in the S&G (reality) show and (being kind of brainwashed)lost his ability to recognize good and bad, becoming a decadent? But if so then, how beliavable is it that he admires love with the same breath?

I could say that there is something between the lines of this song, but at the moment I'm unsure about author's real intentions.

Here basically the same, but would any Earthman say yoooohoooo, what a wonderful world of death and destruction? The song with its enthusiastic tune kind of gives that impression.

Or are interpretors "I don't regret the day" words solely about "to love to learn to live" part, and the rest is the usual "happy tune about sad things" PSB routine?

Bah, lyrics / meaning of PSB songs play an important role for me!

And not that it would be a bad song, it's OK - I just feel I'm missing something out of it. A punch line. I'm simply uncertain if there's supposed some irony (the song as a whole) - and that would be a sufficient punch line for me - or not. Hopefully PSB's comments will shed a light on this.

I think you're all being way too symbolic...

When I was a kid I had a gay barber who once told me a story about when he was a teenager (early 70s, I think), presumably just coming to terms with his sexuality, and his brother (gay as well I think) took him to a some kind of anonymous gay group sex get together on a beach where it was very dark and there was just a lot of groping and fumbling.

To me TSAGS is about a similar experience.

Off topic, Don't shoot me for it:
TSAGS would be perfect for Soft Cell / Marc Almond. Lyrically it would have worked so well on "Cruelty Without Beauty". I can hear Marc's melodramatic flair adding so much to the song. Nothing wrong with PSB version it's just a thought.
