Me in TV talking about PSB! Your suggestions?

However unbelievable that may seem, I have been invited by Czech Television to be interviewed about PSB, to be used in a reportage about them (on the occassion of their performance on one summer festival here).

Now I'm obviously totally ill at ease, shivering and everything (Wayne, what was your therapy? ).


Anyway, why I'm writing this is also to know your opinion:

I was told by the producer to bring some materials related to PSB (tickets etc.) to be broadcast during the interview. What would you submit, or what infamous picture would you show?

Also, they showed interest in some curiosities regarding PSB. I have a few things on mind, but what would you say?

(Hopefully the reportage will be broadcast, as there are recently some confusions about the festival in question - but after all, they might still use it on the occassion of the new LP.)

Yeah, I may try to propose that. But they will use their onw archive for videoprojections (it's a question if they'll have I'm with stupid - I hope so), and may well have their own mind regarding this.

But it's solely up to me what physical (printed etc.) stuff (which they'd make short shots of or whatever) I bring - what (interesting / special / funny) would you bring?

I don't want to lie.

Anyway, the recording has been postponed (hopefully not cancelled), because of the recent confusions about the Czech "Love Planet" festival where PSB are to appear. Originally it was two days in Tabor, but it may end up as one day in Prague - be it anywhere, any long, there are some quite radical changes to be announced next week. And of course until it is obvious who will perform when and where, Czech Television don't want to record anything that could be useless in the end.

(I have unofficial information from the main organizer that they want to keep all big stars and that the one day would be rather Friday, which then wouldn't collide with PSB Saturday performance in Spain - given the Czech festival would take place the same weekend as originally planned.)

I can't say that I really needed any therapy, so to speak. I've been fortunate enough in my career to have done a lot of public speaking and to have been interviewed on various subjects several times for magazines and television. So I'm pretty used to that sort of thing. It's just that this was the first time I'd ever spoken publicly or been interviewed about the Pet Shop Boys. I was actually much more nervous about the plane flight (I hate flying) and being in an unfamiliar city than about the interview itself.

I wasn't asked to bring or provide anything, and I'm not sure what I might have brought if I'd been asked to. Perhaps some "PSB collectible." I could have shocked them with the infamous "penis cover" of the "Before" 12-inch single (as Rags noted above), but then they almost certainly wouldn't have shown that on TV, would they?

At any rate, best wishes with your interview! I'm sure you'll do very well. Professional interviewers are usually very good at putting people at ease, and if you do "mess up" saying something, they almost always give you a chance to go back and say it over again.

Actually I'm not sure if such a gem deserves any publicity. You know, some things are better kept out of attention of masses, otherwise their magic is half-gone. I'm totally ill at ease imagining presenting this example of the finest (IMHO) taste of all PSB die-hard fans to some lazy teenagers who are just spending the late afternoon in front of TV. (Prepare for a change kids, I could talk about subway stations*, bus stations*, football players* or Luna.) Maybe I could preventively condemn New York city boy there. (It already got a go on Channel 4 after all, didn't it?)
