Would it not be possible to limit the birthday wishes on this board to one permanent thread? I was never in favour of splitting the main board into on topic and off topic sections, and the reasons why are now clear to see.

While I respect the rights of strange old men to post virtual birthday greetings to random people that they've never met, I think it wouldn't be asking too much to request that such winsome congratulations be restricted to a single thread rather than the 94 or so that seem to clog up the OT section at any one time.

After all, the title of the thread could be edited to suit the day and random in question without discomoding the few of us who come here with bitterness in our black hearts.

Drico.

Seconded, or maybe this strange invention called the PM would be more appropriate to send sincere greetings rather than amusing death threats, and the truly misanthropic could have a Death Wish thread at the expense of a birthday thread.

Seriously though I'm with Drico on this, birthdays and RIP threads get a bit tiresome, especially when they are often insincere and rather self-important, not that a democracy should need to ask permission of course.

And while we're at it can we not have threads locked when they clearly aren't personal, insulting, etc? There I was about to add to the 911-Loose change thread a comment about howits strange that conspiracy theorists seem to be self-proclaimed experts in aviation and propulsion and the thread gets locked.

If you're going to have certain rules and use the 'think of the children' approach to hide behind at least be prepared to point out where they've been broken and acknowledge that interpretation of rules is often open to debate.

We've got a "Support" section in this forum Drico ;) have you noticed it?

And i'm sure many B'Day wishes ARE sincere..

One thread for B'Day wishes would be ok i guess.. :-?

Yes, let's all voice against it! The threads alone are enough to hide your age/birthday wishes on this forum!
