Well, all I know is I remember reading about it being about her mothers death. I don't have a quote, sorry.

I'm not the kind of person to spend hours thinking of a stupid username. I was listening to P!nk at the time and the I just thought of the exclamation mark.
So you're a P!nk fan?

That's really clever then, using the exclamation mark like that.
Amazing how that just came to you.
Almost as clever as me changing Numb to Dumb.
Or me calling myself No Muscle Mary cause my name is Mary and I'm not a gay guy who spends too much time in the gym.

You were totally justified in your smart comment to me on the subject.

You don't do sarcasm, do you?
That's quite sweet. I'll leave you alone now and get on with my business.
Trying to find where the hell Neil said that about 911 a few years back when they were first going to use the song.

I'm more a fan of Linda Perry, hence me not having P!nk's first or latest album.

I just thought changing Numb to dumb was stupid, just because you don't like it. It wasn't meant as a personal attack on you

I have certainly heard or read somewhere that Diane Warren wrote Numb about the death of her mother too. Perhaps Neil mentions it on the Fundamental interview cd?
Prick up your ears.

From Aviation Weekly, 31.06.01

Neil Tennant, greying but surprisingly unwrinkly late 40-something, plays us a demo of a song foxy MOR hitsville vamp Diana Warren has written for the Boys. "We like the fact that our fans will be stunnned that we could ask someone like Diana to write a song for us, but that's our legendary perverse and contrary nature shining through, I suppose. She basically wrote it down the phone to us as I was doing the ironing. Well, Ricardo, my 15-year old houseboy was..."

"I mean, who on earth would predict two ageing old queens singing a song about someone's parrot dying on a plane hijacked by 9/11 suicide bombers? Not only that but they put him in cargo as well. It's such a sad tale that we knew the song was perfect for our melancholic miserablism. No one even realised the parrot was already battling cancer until his remains were found outside Soho House in Manhattan. Of course, Chris and I have had dinner there many times."

Talking of miserable sods with moodswings, is there any truth to the somewhat surprising rumour that former labelmate Morrissey turned the song down for being too 'up'? "Absolutely not!" counters Tennant. "He burst into tears when he first heard it. The real reason he rejected it was that he was making a four on the floor dance album at the time, actually. I don't think the fact he's more of a fan of budgies helped either."

Ah yes, THAT'S where I saw it!

I've always been an avid reader of Aviation Weekly.

Well done Burj!

Lovely stuff. I await the inevitable US only release of the double A-side, Fugitive/Numb.

The only bit I saw was this

"I thought it was one of the album's weaker moments"

The rest I will choose to ignore

Is it true Meatloaf is writing a song for their next album?

It's called

I would do anything for a hit (I would even sing a seriously shite song turned down by Aerosmith)

They're aiming for the longest song title ever, apparantly.

Just accept that some people like it, others don't. Thats what a forum is all about, to discuss - not to take personal swipes.

But Burj has become a bit of a pin in the backside with all the posts about the topic.
