Dear PSBers,
I've just got back from Volt Festival, Sopron, when our dearest PET SHOP BOYS was playing tonight.. it is only a short review about the concert and some great moments of my day...
The concert was a kind of shorter version of the earlier ones lacking PSYCHOLOGICAL (one of my favourites from Fundamental) and Before-Numb. The background and the desing was the same, there were 2 dancers, 2 backing volalists + Sylvia, one drummer, one guitarist for Sodom, Pete and of course Neil and Chris
The show was absolutely great, the mood of the audience was very high from the very beginning, and it went even higher till the end moment. The sound itself wasn't actually bad, it sounded much better then Fun Loving Criminals (the band played just before the PSB, inreresting mix of music styles)... It was not too loud and we positioned ourselves in the center (row 5-6th), so sometimes we couldn't hear Neil singing (but I've heard it was much better on the side and 10-15 m behind us...
The audience really loved the old hits as well as the I'm with stupid,SODOM and INTEGRAL. I reached my peak when the encore started with SO HARD RED ZONE MIX which is one of my all time favourite.... It sounded fantastic and I really wanted it playing forever....
Just before the encore, somebody sent Pet Shop Boys a Hungarian flag with the following brade: Happy Birthday Neil, Hungary, Volt Festival Sopron 8th July 2006. Neil seemed absolutely happy, he told us to come back next year?????
I was told that the whole place was full of people behind us... but I did not see so I cannot estimate the whole number of viewers...
In brief, the concert was the second best one in my life (my favourite was in Budapest 2000 when they've played lots of extraordinary songs e.g. Positive role model, I don't know what you want but I can't give it any more Peter Rauhofer Mix, Young Offender Jam and Spoon Mix) and it was in my town
))) so if Mohamed does not go...
We also had a fantastic meeting with Chris and Neil at the Hotel in the afternoon
I got the information from my friend that they will arrive to the hotel later that afternoon, so we asked permission from the Hotel crew to wait there for Neil and Chris.... They've arrived an hour later, and when they've entered we slowly approached them at the reception... fortunately we were the only fans (2 of us plus my girlfriend) so Neil came to me and we clasped each other hands (he offered my to shake) and we did with Chris too. We greeted them to Hungary and had a short chat. Unfortunately we had lots of records there so the chat was shortly diverted to the records we held, and we had lots of great rarities scribbed
))) Neil said it is quite embarassing to sign the penis Before front of the receptionists but He actually did not really care. They were both really friendly and in a good mood... when they've left Neil told me he hopes we will really enjoy the show.
I know it is only a tipical fan story, but it was really great, to talk to them very closely and later see them in a fantastice show, when you could really feel their genius.
It was the second time to meet them, but the first was in the middle of Arts Theatre for half of a second, but this time they've really were with us only.
They arrived without bodyguards or assistance, walked into the hotel like any other tourists.....
We have plenty of pictures and 8 minutes of video record which I'd like to share with you. I'll find the way.
