Yes and Minimal is their best single for years IMO. It's not overly commercial though and certainly wouldn't sound out of place on Disco 3 which is perhaps their least *pop* and most 'underground' album ever. It was also their best album for a decade.

fundamental is awesome. I'm just saying the B-sides sort of unfortunatly(at least for me)harken back to the old school analog era of PSB which I really am not that big a fan of.yet I notice some people who always complain not enough of their stuff sounds like the 80's complaining even when the PSB give them what they want this time around with the B-sides.

I like very modern and produced...almost over produced PSB.

Is it a big disaster if Woolworths don't stock it?

The reason I ask is that if someone is going to buy it, they're probably going to buy it... regardless of where they buy it. Maybe the delay inbetween might mean that some first week sales become second week sales... but this is not necessarily a bad thing... it might mean Minimal actually stays in the Top 20 for multiple weeks, potentially giving it more exposure than a Top 10 entry that bombs out shortly afterwards.

Just a thought...

I agree about the absurdity of putting audio tracks on a dvd format. Though I think chart rules prohibit more than 2 cd singles.. so the third format had to be a dvd or vinyl. Still I don't see why they couldn't come up with a worthwhile dvd single with 3 video tracks. You could have the music video, a making the video feature like the official site had, and a live performance video. That's 3 video tracks right there. Just save the b-sides for a later single if need be.

Oh and here are the Depeche midweek figures I mentioned. In the Thurs midweek update Precious had sold 12,998. Of that 12,380 were physical formats and then there were 618 downloads (458 tracks and 160 bundles). That works out to 4.75% of the total sales. Of course there were no digital 'extras' unavailable on a physical format like with Minimal...

Also, about Minimal's 7.73% digital sales. The only other low one is the 12.25% at #5, which should be Madonna's Get Together. She also has a very strong core fanbase who will really push her physical sales up, but not as likely to drive up downloads. Maybe the figures are right after all??

Those download figures do seem strange. Not just PSB's but i read on one website that Kasabian's single was download only. If thats right, why aren't their figures 100% ?

I'm not too fussed what goes on a DVD single, but i'm not a fan on cd2, although i bought it. It's very rare you get a good remix and Minimals remixes are poor. Minimal isn't a good song to remix anyway IMO.

It will sell around 11,000 - 13,000. All PSB's singles do, except one or two. Those figures normally get you in or around the top ten but like i mentioned before, you can only do as well as the next single up. The top 5 look like they will do 30k each. PSB cannot compete with that.

For some reason the Kasabian single wasn't released until Tuesday - so it was charting on downloads only on Monday (in the Tues mids). Dazzer's percentages are from the Weds mids which should include the physical sales.

yes there were, there was a plethora of physically unreleased edits, instrumentals and remixes of Precious that were download only. I'm surprised given DMs obsession with downloads that their proportion of sales is so small

Yes as Woolworths is the largest contributor of phyiscal sales (I think it is something like 40-50% of sales figures are from Woolworths). Also there is a Woolworths in the majority of places unlike HMV and Virgin so for sheer easy and comfort Woolworths is easier to get to than HMV and Virgin for some (in this case casual buyers who have heard the song and think hey it is good if I see it when I'm next in Woolies I'll buy it)

The downloads component of Minimal does seem excessively small. Didn't I'm with stupid end up shifting about 3,000 units via digital? From memory someone (possibly Dave/Undertaker?) posted here that physical units for I'm with stupid were about 11,000 + around 3,000 digital downloads to make a total of approx 14,000 units. That's about 22% towards downloads for I'm with stupid, so why is Minimal so much lower?

I'm trying to find an explanation why the sales are so low. It's the best PSB single in 9 years, that can't be the reason. Radio 2 plays it, even Radio 1 gives it some airplay. The previous single, that didn't really get airplay on Radio 1, went #8...

The formats of Minimal are OK... - The 2-track cd-single isn't very attractive, but die-hard fans buy it anyway, and so might some Elton John fans. The remix cd-single is OK too, the DVD single is a fan only thing, but many fans will buy it.

I have a feeling that something is going very wrong with distribution, either WANTED or unwanted. I was hoping for another Top 10 hit, but now I will be happy if it makes the Top 20...

Maybe they just haven't updated all the digital info. Oh well, I stand corrected.

As to why they didn't sell well maybe DM fans aren't all that interested in remixes.

I have to say I'm truly shocked at the prospects for this single! A start at #13 could mean just scraping the top 20 by weeks end if this single holds to typical PSB form. I thought it would end up around 11-12, maybe making 9-10 if things went well. So much for all the Capital radioplay helping them...

I didn't. Am I a diehard fan? I would consider myself to be. However, I am not myopic. I had a look at the releases and decided that they weren't worth purchasing. The 2-track CD is only of interest to me if it contains a must-have b-side (in other words, something new rather than a cut down version of a hand-me-down from a previous project). I don't collect for the sake of it.

I'm simply going to get the German maxi-single instead. That way I get the real b-side (or bonus track in corporate speak) on CD. Hiding it away on DVD and making it difficult to listen to on the move is just too dismissive of the fan for my comfort.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what's the difference between the German 4trk maxi CD and the UK 4trk CD 2 (also called maxi?)?
