It's been filmed tonight. Apparently it's all clips with just some new links being filmed.

The untimely demise of Top of the Pops is apposite. With record companies determinedly killing off the single, TOTP wasn't long for this world.

When Doctor Who was for the chop last time, the BBC did all they could to ruin it IMHO by placing it against Coronation Street and having the Tardis materialise in EastEnders.

They've effectively done the same again with TOTP IMHO. They wanted rid of it and so moved it where noone would bother to watch it. I have better things to do on a Sunday and you already have charts on the radio. So bye TOTP - seeya in 16 years as a paid for download.

Strange that you say that because I was just thinking that some form of online downloadable chart show would be about right given the current pop environment. Honestly, the sooner the charts are abolished the better because with the single effectively redundant (at least in terms of physical product thanks to the deliberately crushing chart rules), bands might actually be able to release discs that provide value for money and satisfy their fan bases free in the knowledge that they no longer have to play this artificial game.

On Sunday, we'll get all the usual gnashing of teeth and wailing as Minimal crashes in at number 19 with all manner of reasons proffered. I doubt I'm the only core fan giving this single a miss due to the lacklustre and uninviting nature of this release. If the band are failing to sell to the likes of me, then reasonably lofty chart positions are more remote than ever. Far better to hold on to curmudgeonly old loyalists by offering enticing EP-style releases than by towing the corporate line, losing the old farts, and still plummeting into the lower reaches of the top 20 of a chart that means squat all.

Neil and Chris will appear on the final episode of Top of the Pops performing an exclusive version of In private with veteran DJ Simon Bates.

A version of the song appears on current single Minimal which is expected to crash into the top twenty this weekend.
