Madonna and U2 release singles into exactly into the same strength varying chart and it rarely if ever stops them from going top 10 cf. pet shop boys who for a very long time now have rarely EVER even got a top 10 in the same chart...you can only do as well as the single above you but making such weak excuses for the underformance of a track just goes to show how obssesive, deluded and in denial() you are to be unable to except the truth of the CURRENT (ie not continually reffering to a decade or more ago) success of PSB.
PS If a group usually has little general public interest/support(eg hardcore fanbase buying gets a highish place but it collapses + plumets the week after ,then big business means only a little stock of that group will ever be ordered in by store unless they see+hear lot of general public interest/buzz as its release date approaches)
When did Dave mention anything regarding the past decade? The singles market IS strong at the moment.
I am unsure if your theory regarding artistes with a hardcore fanbase crashing the chart and then plummeting (note spelling) is supposed to demonstrate any insider knowledge but it really isn't anything that no one here already knows. And as for calling him obsessed and deluded etc - out of order if you ask me.

Whatever f*** shit you can say in your entire set of posts and whatever perversive pleasure you may get with your slandering Dave (and consequently us), it is the first time since Very that a nationwide ROCK TV CHANNEL made this weekend PetShopBoys weekend based on the votes of the viewers WHORRAAYYYreality_check wrote:The usual talking out of the wrong orifice i'm afraid viewers - some people really do not deserve free speech when their fanaticism drives them to such a biassed view point.Undertaker wrote:The singles market is very strong at the minute though. The CELL by Stephen King instantly hit number 1 in New York Times Bookseller Lists selling well over 200 thousand copies in three weeks. This affirms my opinion: People really need an occassional good horror read...

LMAO @ Reality Check. The bitter Erasure fan who mocks PSB for selling 50,000 albums, yet his favourite band - Erasure, don't get anywhere near that figure with their last 5 albums combined. Especially the last shower of shit that peaked at 102Dreamcatcher2003 wrote:[

. Fundamental or Minimal may not be selling that well but no one can deny that it put the spotlights on the Boys again unlike some other "duo" who were never given much spotlight in the first place even in their so called "heyday". Sorry reality-check but reality hurts
And like Dreamcatcher said, i dont know wher you get this last decade crap from.I love it when you get bitter Erasure fans on here, tearing up inside because they cannot accept the embarressment of Union Streets chart performance and sales. It's not our fault

Just to act out UTs delusions for a minute(about me (though hes been told countless times why i'm NOT an erasure fanatic + what my aim is), just like his belief's in general wrt his beyond help fanatiscism ) i'm afraid the General Public would say the same thing as you Marco about PSB (but w/o the needless subjective small minded repugnant bitchiness you exude ie "records").
If i'm some sort of irrational Erasure fanatic than why in my posts am i not immediately subjectively bitchy about PSB (Like Marco is 'straight' away about erasure). Do you see me making relentlessy subjective remarks in my posts about the quality of PSB's current music(or themselves) like Undertaker and all the fellow indenial fanatic ilk are doing about Erasure? ...i'm just trying to make objective counterpoints to such highly emotionally clouded thinking of fanatics about PSBs current chart success (with the knowledge i've gained thru the chart from years of interest,as can be evidenced by my familarity with chart forums) - you must know reality brings must less dissapoint overall than blind fantasy and wishful thinking NOT based on facts rather ignorance.
I'm actually a fan of a performer/entertainer who does not have the classic writting talents of Neil + Chris ,however i am familiar when householdname stars who once had stellar success with all sections of the general public become more a fanbase cult(where the general public seems to have little interest or even knowledge of releases, all of which sales collapse in the second week after initial support of the hardcore fanbase). While my star is one of the few lucky one's from the 80's to still today have a career comparible(but nowhere as big as) their initial years,i know exactly how a fanbase reacts faced with the possibilty their star(s) will never become more successful again, i've seen how desperate and indenial fans get when they can't face the truth - been there done that.
The last rumour i heard about this star's comeback was a collaberration with the Scissor Sisters ,the theme involved a comparison of a diamond to the stars recent experience
You see UT may well be an avid supporter of PSB but that does not preclude him from making false presumptious SH*TE about who i am and what i'm doing here just like he does with his clueless ignorant claims (full of misinformation) about the music chart eg biased goal posting widening comparisons(to try to make PSB chart achievements look comparitively better)

most of the folks on here as far as I can see are fairly objective about the boys. Unlike the Erasure forum, we don't treat criticism as 'negative' or 'unhelpful'.
And even if you wanted to be subjective, which again MOST people are, then that too is your opinion. We'll either agree or disagree. I feel that you're defensive because you are afraid of debate, and that's why you 'seem' irrational.
But make no mistake not many of us are in denial just because PSB don't get no.1 or sell 10 million copies. Many of us appreciate the position the boys are in as well as the industry and a lot of other factors that have contributed to this. So spare us the lecture, please. There's a very, very strong possiblity that many of us were aware of these challenges a long, long time ago, possibly as far back as 1994 or further.
btw, I don't really know of this SS peformer/collaborator you speak of. But you've made it transparently obvious that, yes, pop groups go on the wane, and some of them even fall further as Erasure have no doubt displayed. So what.

Speaking of Erasure I imagine the chart-obsessed folks at Mute must be watching these midweek reports with horror. If the second single off a very strong PSB album which is getting decent mainstream radio attention is only at #15 after 3 days of sales and sure to fall further by weeks end then Erasure's recent string of chart "successes" will be coming to an abrupt halt with their next album.
The abysmal sales levels of January 2005 when Breathe made #4 will probably never be seen again. There will always be slower times of year to release their singles but if the rising tide of digital purchases we're now witnessing is a sign of things to come then barring a miracle of some sort Erasure have likely seen the singles top 10 for the last time.

Jesus, you are a complete moron. You have made 17 posts, they are all a collection of laying into PSB. People here see right through someone like you. Are you going to tell us who you are? The knicker sniffer, maybe? You only posted when Fundamental was dropping down the chart and only when you found out Minimal wasn't going to be top ten. Not only that, you seem to be obsessed with me.Get a grip. You cannot handle the fact that PSB fans had a pop at Erasure for their embarressing sales of both Nightbird and their latest shower of shit called Sesame Street.reality_check wrote: Do you see me making relentlessy subjective remarks in my posts about the quality of PSB's current music(or themselves)
Anyway, if you want to spend your time coming on here stalking me and a few others, go ahead. Whatever turns you on.
I'm off out to buy Union Street for 59 pence. I need something to put my cup of tea on.

Isn't it great, Reality-check, that PSB have so much concerts this year all over the world? Apparently many people wants to see them.
I don't have all the records of PSB, I download a lot. Maybe there are more people as me... But I think the royalties made them rich already.
Morrissey at a recent concert: "Thank you for downloading Ringleaders of the Tormentors."

Let's be serious here. I'm the token Erasure fan on here lol. I have stated from the start that "Minimal" IMHO is a crap song, but who cares about sales stats? I'm not sure "Integral" would have charted better, even though I do think it's great - just very dated sounding for the current pop charts, as is SAGS ("Luna Park" rocks, though, as does "Cassanova In Hell"). If you guys believe it's such a great song, then why is there such an uproar against a person (reality_check - who I believe isn't even an Erasure fan) when he states a perfectly valid opinion. This paranoia smells of ancient witch-hunts.
As for Union Street, honestly, I didn't think it was even going to enter the top 200, as it wasn't promoted at all with anything... including a non-chart elligible EP single. And I certainly didin't expect the majority of synthpop fans to go out in droves and purchase it just because it's Erasure. Who are we trying to kid here? A PSB acoustic release full of back-catalogue songs done in country & western style with zero promotion would probably have charted similarly (or perhaps even lower, due the the duo's larger dance following being completely disinterested).
Perhaps this is the end of Erasure's top ten hits, but who cares? As long as they keep selling enough to keep releasing their music, it's all that matters. Sure, I'd love it if more people were aware of them, but we can't have everything. What we *do* have, is amazing/glittering/beaming/throbbing/melodic/Earth-shattering pop music. The album they are currently recording full of head-on, energetic, back-to-their-roots electropop sounds chillingly good.
As a final note, I still find it hilarious how Erasure's name comes up randomly so often on this board. That speaks a truth far louder than any words could possibly summon.

The General Public knows perfectly who PSB are and what they do.
Fundamental entered the European charts at Number 2. Ignoring the fact is a matter of carelessness for the casual listener.
No 1 cares about Erasure I'm afraid.

Yes, and? You don't even have the guts to tell which artist you're a fan of. Jeez... What's the point of you participating in this forum? You want to make us aware of how hard it is to deal with decreasing popularity of our favourite artists? Give me a break, man! I live in a country where PSB are completely ignored, where they had their last big hit in 1993, and where many people think they're not even around any more. What am I supposed to do? Go and sit in a corner and cry? Find myself an other band to be fan of? Of course not! I'm still a proud PSB fan, I keep playing their music.reality_check wrote:I'm actually a fan of a performer/entertainer who does not have the classic writting talents of Neil + Chris ,however i am familiar when householdname stars who once had stellar success with all sections of the general public become more a fanbase cult ... And as for chart results: If Minimal hits the UK Top 20 today, it's their twentieth Top 20 single in a row. Why on earth should we worry? - Because 13 year old kids don't like the music of two middle aged men enough to give them one number 1-hit after another? I really don't care. PSB are still making music, sell reasonable amounts of records, do enough concerts and interesting side projects. I'm still as happy with them as I was in 1987.
And let's be realistic: If you look at the true survivors of the 80's, only a few bands can be mentioned: U2, Pet Shop Boys, Simply Red, Bon Jovi... - that's about it. All other bands had less commercial success since the 80s. If someone had told me in 1986 that PSB would still be around 20 years later, still scoring Top 20-hits, I would have been extremely happy.
