seemed to me that a lot of the votes in the top ten got there because they were so old but still good. I mean, perhaps it's just cos I'm belgian, but I hadn't heard of about half of the series...
Something that's not filming anymore always gets more votes than shows that are still running. Absolutely fabulous and the Office definitely deserved to be in the top ten!

I have recently been introduced to The Goodies... Now THAT beats most of the comedy.

I don't think it is the definition of a sitcom though

Having only seen three of these shows (and one fourth, I believe, in a Swedish version?) I had to vote 'Blackadder'. I've never understood the order of the episodes though...
Fawlty Towers was funny the first three times I saw it, by now it's just awkward.

They should never have got rich in the first place - the last one over Christmas was unwatchable. Shame really, though I am sure that the British public will vote it number one anyway.

I like some of the top ten but Fawlty Towers is on another planet.....

Indeed. Fawlty Towers has always been in a league of it's own. In fact it's not really like a conventional sitcom at all. More of a farce.

John Cleese is a smart guy, he knew when to quit while he was ahead, unlike Jennifer Saunders, for instance......

Only Fools will win and probably deserves to win. They have gone too far though in the shows since the 1996 Xmas episodes and they're O.K. but not great like they used to be.

Can't see the sitcom filmed in the best town in the North (where? Doncaster of course!) getting very far. I am of course referring to 'Open all hours' which was always consistent in it's funniness, but never quite reached the dizzy heights of hilarious.

here in the US we used to get this british show called "cracker" which I loved, It doesnt seem to be on anymore. hope the seasons come out on DVD!

They probably haven't been as funny but it wasn't surprising. No way could John Sullivan constantly supply scripts like the millionaire one's, the blow up dolls and the chandliers. I can watch whichever episode time and again and it's always funny.

One foot in the grave deserves a mention and i'm surprised some Mothers Do Ave Em isn't in there.

Ronnie Barker is also a man who will never be forgotton. He was in so many great programs.

well there arent that many discussions about favorite british shows so I figured mentioning cracker for sitcom was worth a shot anyways
