Well, if a song like "Numb" were ever to become a big hit, it would have to be one of those longevity type hits, just like Aerosmiths "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing". However, for that to happen you'd need sustained airplay, which is not something that is likely to happen with a PSB record these days.kimphilby wrote:Maybe it's going to be a 'Chasing Cars' - style slow burner!
I always thought it would be very-PSB for them to get a big hit with a song someone else wrote!
Anyways, let's not get carried away.
"Numb" isn't as good as "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" anyway.

Oh dear. Blueswan, read what you put. In another thread you said you can support Numb and moan atthe same time. Thats fine, its what PSB fans do but to suggest ''Dont wanna miss a thing'' is better than Numb, is lunacy. Bands like Aerosmith need banning.BlueSwan wrote:Well, if a song like "Numb" were ever to become a big hit, it would have to be one of those longevity type hits, just like Aerosmiths "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing". If Numb has climbed into the top 10 then that's excellent news. With sales being so ridiculously close yesterday, though, it may simply be a case of the song leapfrogging some 'established' hits that would have had the additional benefit of Sunday sales, which Numb didn't have. So we will probably have a better idea of where it will end up after Wednesday's sales, when sales tend to level out a bit more.
Still, if this information is accurate, it's encouraging because it means Numb will have sold steadily yesterday, and hopefully will do enough in the remaining days to guarantee a top 20 position. Come on, Dazzer, where are you?

If it's indeed at #10 in the midweeks, then this is surprisingly good news. Numb may actually reach the UK Top 20, which is better than I thought and hoped for.
BTW: Is someone able to tell me IF the Kate Havnevik single 'Unlike Me' is indeed out this week and if so, if it charts somewhere in the midweeks?

Good point. That's a very likely explanation.Kris wrote:If Numb has climbed into the top 10 then that's excellent news. Actually, there has been a tendency of PSB singles hangin' on to it's initial chart position for a few days and then dropping like a rock at the very end of the week. So even a solid placing after wednesday doesn't guarantee anything, unfortunately. So we will probably have a better idea of where it will end up after Wednesday's sales, when sales tend to level out a bit more.

Oh, I know that. What I meant (and I realise I was a bit vague) was that you can usually predict what's going to happen after Wednesday when sale patterns become a bit clearer, using past evidence. PSB singles do indeed usually drop a fair bit from their Wednesday position so if they are, say, #10 after today's sales then it's safe to bet that it will at best chart at #15 (bearing in mind how close the sales are) and possibly lower.
No-one seems to know for sure what yesterday's sales genuinely were, though, so this is all completely hypothetical at the moment.

Bad news. There's no way it's gonna make the top 20 now.DazzerUKUK wrote:At 16 today.
Just over 200 sales from falling out of the top 20 and 400 sales from going into the top ten.
Very tight indeed though the dreaded weekend sales are on the way so my guess is it'll end up around 23-25
