I plan on buying Fundamental, partly as I enjoyed it so much live and I like to have DVDs of shows I've seen live to try to relive it--but realized I'd only seen clips of past tours and wanted to see them and compare.Pet Shop Girl wrote:Buy the "Performance" tour DVD first and then wait for the new one to be released for 'Fundamental' next year.
I think I'll start with Performance just from all the recommendations--I'm a big theatre, opera, musical theatre and dance fan so staging and choreographya re really interesting to me.
Which tour was Highlights from? Montage looks interesting but I'm not too much a fan of video tricks when filming a live show--which it seems to be filled with. Of course I will eventually get them all

They've literally ruined Montage with the silly 'special' effects. I don't know what they've been trying to achieve but it failed miserably.EricMontreal22 wrote: Montage looks interesting but I'm not too much a fan of video tricks when filming a live show--which it seems to be filled with.
I tried watching it again, if only for old time's sake. Yet again, could barely avoid cringing. It is so disappointing esp if you have been to the dreaded gig in person. Why... oh why?!
PS: I'd still go for Highlights though. Now that one is just fantabulous!

It is hard to know with concert films how much to "mess" with it--with the recent filming of Madonna's Confessions tour Jonas Ackerlund filmed it with some of the effects I usually hate--double exposure, superimposing the projections OVER the main image, slow mo but I thought for the most part it managed to capture the concert. But it does sound like (I say without seeing any of Montage) that most think Montage did it too much... I should look for clips on youtube before buying I suppose

Yes! By all means do check it out, if at all possible.
I don't want to put you off, and maybe I am the only one with an issue re Montage...
You might like it just fine! But it just looks *so* amateurish, and cheap 70s or whatnot. Eurgh.
The worse thing is that Montage did not even warrant using special effects. There were lights, smoke blah de blah. That was (more than) enough... *sigh*
