The strategy of promo-singles ???

#1 Post by yves »

I'm always listening to Radio Donna ( Belgium ) and they play "She's Madonna" several times a day. They always say : "Robbie Williams with PSB"

But I can't understand the intention of promo-singles at radiostations. They play it more than one month before you can buy the single.
When it's finally out, I think people don't buy it because they hear it too much at the radio.
It's not the first time I ask in a musicstore a single I've heard on the radio. They always answer me : We don't know that.
I really don't understand this strategy. Two weeks before, it's OK, but a longer time you will lose the effect of a new melody.
If I hear something I like, I want to buy immediately...

And you ?
This must be the place I waited years to leave

I agree, but the thing is, maybe the promo single measures (maybe) how many copies of the original release can be made. If they release later, like 1 week before, chances of flunking can be higher.

I totally agree with you. The video for She's Madonna is already shown on TV. And the song played on the radio (I also listen to Donna :)). But the single won't be out for another month...... It's too soon.

And the single "She's Madonna" has already entered some lists
AND left them already... before even the release date.

Yes, they do. Singles need to be very successful before they reach the break even point. Singles are hardly more than a promotion tool for the album.
