PSB doing Gazebo's "I Like Chopin"
A bit of an Italo Disco fan, every now and then I slide in an old CD of mine and reminisce about childhood long gone . I was in 6th grade when I first heard this song, it was from a mix tape that my oldest brother had. Pure bliss. I never knew the song title nor the musician until years later.
At any rate, this got me wondering how great it would be if PSB would make their own rendition of the song. I imagine Chris' arrangements with rhythmic synths going in and out much like "Vamplires" over sweeping violins and those catchy piano bars with Neil's silky voice singing with great emotions. It'll be like "Jealousy" part 2.
I think this would be absolutely fabulous! Anyone with me on this?

I don't think they'd improve on this particular song (which I agree is great). I generally feel one should only do covers if one feels that the orginal can be improved upon (like with Always On My Mind or Go West) or given a dramatically different treatment to great effect (like with Twist In My Sobriety). Straight covers are justified if the orginal is very little known - "I like Chopin" might be little known in the UK, but it was a major hit in Europe.

it is a lovely song, pure pure pure melody. Instant classic. One the best songs from the '80. A HUGE hit all around the world.
I would love to hear an electro cover fropm the boys but it would have to be a major twist to the original in order to make it into the TOP 5 or TOP 10. The original is just too good.

Neil Tennant has a great voice, Chris Lowe has great silence.

Well, PSB did a 'little' cover of 'Rock Me Amadeus' on their remix of 'Mope'...I didn´t recognise the chords on the first listenings, but once I did, it was great. A very fine musical touch of our boys...synthpopfan wrote:Marisan wrote:In fact I would also like to hear PSB versions of a few FALCO songs like "Rock me Amadeus" and "Der Kommissar".You're not serious, right?

(a voice sample from "Rock Me Amadeus" was used on the original version of 'Mope'...PSB didn´t use this sample on their remix, instead, they use some hidden chords from the song...genius!!!)

mmm...I don´t want to be against forum rules...but I think there will be no problem with this...I did a short 40sec sample, very low quality, from the segment of the PSB remix of Mope 'covering' Rock Me Amadeus...here you can download it...Marisan wrote:Really? Could you possibly post a link (or MP3)? I'd love to hear that.

PSB MOPE mix: LOVED IT!!!! I don't think the whole Rock Me Amadeus would be a good idea..., speaking about 80's covers, back in 85 if I'm not mistaken (yea, I was 9), I used to looove this Spanish song, it reminds me of PSB melodies, I think it would make a great cover, even the lyrics would make PSB sense (for those who know Spanish, you know what I mean, w/ the subliminal transgender message), I think it's a masterpiece:

I can imagine your feelings. Sometimes you hear a track and you think: wow, it would be so great if Pet Shop Boys sung this or remixed it.
Believe it or not: I had this feeling after downloading the album 'Sam's Town' by The Killers and hearing the song 'Read My Mind'. For me it was immediately the standout track on the album and I played it a lot... - Only to find out a few months later that PSB *are* actually going to remix it !
I currently have the same feeling (PSB should sing/remix this) with a track on the debut album by Mika. The song 'Any Other World' sounds like something Pet Shop Boys could do miracles on!
