Q about content no longer available on official website

#1 Post by geowayne »

One of my site visitors wrote to me today asking a question that I'm afraid I'm unable to answer. (Yes, that happens more often than you might think. ) Here's what she had to say:
I recently purchased a copy of the Pet Shop Boys album Bilingual (further listening 1995-1997) and noticed that there are instructions on the back of the case which read "Visit www.petshopboys.co.uk/bilingual and insert Further Listening 1995-1997
into your CD-Rom drive to access exclusive multi-media content". However, this website no longer seems to exist. I assume it was connected somehow with an older version of their website which would have existed back in 2001 when the album was issued. So, I was wondering if you had any information on what was contained in this "multi-media content" and maybe how I could otherwise access this feature.
Well, as you know, the official PSB website has indeed undergone a major change since then. But I simply can't remember what that "exclusive multi-media content" was that was available via the Further Listening disc and the old website. But I'd be willing to bet somebody here does remember.

Can you help? Do you recall what that exclusive multi-media content was? And do you know whether, by any remote chance, it might still be available somewhere? (Now that I wouldn't be willing to bet on, but since my site visitor asked that question, I figure I should, too.)

I hope somebody can help. In the meantime, thanks in advance for considering this question!

This question relates to the re-issues of the studio albums up to and including Bilingual. Each re-issue could be used on a computer, and allowed a user to visit the official site to access the exclusive multimedia content. I think it was something like 'Audiokey' that was used to recognise the CD and allow the content to be displayed via the website. From memory, the content included desktop wallpaper and other images.

Update: Having checked the internet archive facility I located this.

Chris: "I don't really like MP3's. It's like having a 1 megapixel digital camera."

Click for PSB | Euphoric (rarely updated now)

The website let you download wallpapers for each album and a screensaver. I've never actually used the screensaver and couldn't tell you what it looks like.
I've got all those files on my computer though.

Awesome! I knew the forum membership would come through! I'll share this information with my questioning site visitor -- and I'll of course credit my source.

Thanks so much!

I think you could also watch the videos for the singles from that particular album as well.

The wallpapers weren't the sleeve covers and yes the promo videos were able to be viewd as a streaming file.
