I assume you would have to join up to become an "inhabitant" of this Second Life joint, and having done so, then fork over some real money to see PSB perform live on your PC screen. But are PSB actually performing live somewhere and then this is broadcast to this Second Life place? If that's the case, seems to me they are introducing elements of reality into this virtual world, which sort of defies the logic of the thing in the first place. Like you, it's all a bit beyond me too!Naughty Zoot wrote:Don't feel bad, Rusty .. this is all a bit beyond me, too.Rusty wrote:Well it's on the official site now! Forgive my ignorance, but how does an act perform "live" in a virtual world?
Naturally, I'd like to " go " to this thing so how would I do that?

For me, the fact that is says "featuring music from Pet Shop Boys, Groove Armada, Simian Mobile Disco and others" indicates that the music will simply be playing and there won't be any sort of 3D realisation of PSB like there was recently when Jimmy Carr performed a comedy gig. That's what I reckon anyway.

It may be true, if it'd be a performance with PSB 3D they'd have written on the article in the OS, for me it will be only played their music, a little bit sad. Even if I'm not so excited at this idea...Suburban_Boy wrote:For me, the fact that is says "featuring music from Pet Shop Boys, Groove Armada, Simian Mobile Disco and others"

To "see" this one needs to join 2nd life.
Some software gets downloaded to your computer and you "enter" and start
to build your appearance. Then you go to training islands where you learn how
to walk, run, sit, and fly.
All the people are real people online somewhere else in the world.
You "chat" to them via keyboard.
I think I am past training islands and in the true 2nd life now.
It takes a while to get used to. A bit clunky.

On the other hand, the Guardian SF microsite says "there'll be great live performances from the Pet Shop Boys..." (the front screen changes every 5 secs or so, you may have to wait to see the version I'm talking about).Suburban_Boy wrote:For me, the fact that is says "featuring music from Pet Shop Boys, Groove Armada, Simian Mobile Disco and others" indicates that the music will simply be playing and there won't be any sort of 3D realisation of PSB
Surely that doesn't mean PSB in 3D, but still it should be better than only broadcasting some of their records.

I would expect :
* the visuals would be the 3D avatars that everyone has in Life/2.
* there will be a 3D graphical synthesiser for Chris.
* gestures would be done by keyboard by an assistant.
* the sound to be live. Anything Neil says will be live.
* the concert to be something like 4am my time.

I don't know much about second life but if all people you see are users, who's Neil and Chris in second life ? Or is the whole concert programmed before ?Pet Shop Girl wrote:Well U2 did it, its like to see the band play in the virtural world, so it will be Virtual Neil & Chris.

How is it gonna even work ? What time is it and on what day ? There´s no schedule to be found. Helsinki Pride will be on next weekend so it´ll be long nights for me. But for PSB I need to come home.
Interviewer:
-What would you tell someone about yourself if you wanted to impress them?
Chris:
-I´ve got a 12-inch plonker.
