Why are so many disliking..."NUMB"?!?!

Numb do we really have to talk about this shitty piece of music again. It's a real shame PSB included this on an otherwise perfect album.

hear hear, I think I've only listened to it once or twice in total, there is nothing to draw you in. I love Psychological though so perhaps my tastes deviate from those of the majority here

I prefer the ballads on the album. Had I not read that Numb was written not by the Pet Shop Boys I wouldn't have known....

Really?!? It's so different than the other ballads on that album. Both musicly and lyrics wise

I plan to never listen to the single version again

However the (proper) version I adore more now that last year

It's still their last single to date (not including 'She's Madonna) so if anything bad happened to em' the end would be Numb

No worries. I'm actually handling this pretty well. My earlier post hit me at a particualrly low moment & now I feel a bit sheepish about the overly dramatic post.
However, the point I was really aiming for is that this song is actually a very strong attempt to put into words how you feel at a very dark time. And I know we've all been / are / will be there sometime in our lives.
I applaud N&C for doing this song. They've written some pretty serious songs but nothing as bleak as this.

Sorry to spoil it for you, but they didn't write it. Numb was written by Dianne Warren. I believe it was also stipulated in the conditions that Numb had to be a single - which is a shame really.

Pass. I even read my Very booklet to find out more but there is nothing mentioned there. Neil just talks about how he did the song.

I think I read that Neil & Chris wrote Confidential for Tina on the understanding it would be a single at some stage. However I don't think they were conditional terms (as in the case of Numb).

And obviously the single never happened - I've still yet to hear Tina's version...

Actually, I know Diane Warren wrote Numb. I just didn't word that sentence properly. Let me try it again.
N&C have written some serious songs but they've never tackled anything as bleak as what Diane Warren has captured here.
