In terms of respect and appreciation I go back to what I said earlier. I respect them hugely for this release for one simple reason - who else could do it? All these arguments we see on here about Erasure etc - who else could licence a collection of tracks by these kinds of artistes that they have remixed?
This all seems to get forgotten though when, god forbid, they release an album which doesn't have exactly what the harcore fans want on it. It can only be good for the future of PSB if they continually try new things and to appeal to new people.
I'm sorry but when I'm asked to part with my money, I'll judge the contents of the disc solely on that and not what I imagined it might be before the fact or whether other acts could release a similar themed album, so in that sense, I see it as a a lazy effort. I'd rather they be true to the concept and not throw in a couple of their own songs and rather go the extra mile and perhaps remix a couple of tracks from other artists that would be unique to this compilation.
I don't mind the occasional milking, so to speak, but I'd rather buy the compilation under the knowledge that some effort went into it rather than just compiling already existing remixes they've done and throwing in one exclusive mix as an afterthought. Potentially the idea is sound, but the execution is poor.
But what is the Disco concept? It's hardly been a consistent one - which is one of its beauties I guess.
No one's being forced to part with their cash are they?
I'm not saying this is a perfect release - I'm just saying that I can see the thinking behind it and am disappointed to see how far some people's negativity can go (not yours) towards an act who have done so much and cared so much about what they do. Granted they've done very well out of us - but if they had always been cr*p we wouldn't even be having this debate 20 years after they first appeared would we?
Exactly, Disco 4 reflects how the Disco series has no party line, or predictability. Disco's are stop gaps and this is no different. It still pis*es all over Disco 2.
In all it IS an odd album, but this is exaggerated by the fact everyone already compiling a wish list of tracks, when we all know PSB have been on the road ALL year and spent little time in a studio. I hope this will now change of course and look forward to the next album.
I'm with Stupid (PSB Maxi-mix) on DISCO4: is it a joke ? Didn't they really have anything else to put on this album ? I mean, this mix is pure crap, isnt' it ? What about Blur, Liza Minelli or Eight Wonder PSB remixes ?

Maybe they were trying to make it flow as an album and in that sense the Blur remix would seem out of place, given that its quite poppy and the most mainstream of the remixes they've done. Though, alongside the Bowie remix, it is their finest remix imo.
From that perspective, its understandable that other remixes were also omitted. The Bloodhound Gang remix wasn't anything special and hasn't aged particularly well so I'm thankful that it isn't on there.
I'll maintain that its not a strong enough idea nor does it have the commerical appeal to stands its on own and I feel the type of people interested enough to buy a disc for one remix of their favourite artist would probably already own that remix on its original format. My view is that it makes for a good bonus disc but as an album in its own right, its something of an oddity.

i made myself a digital version of disco 4 using all the mixes included on it (except the integral one) and is a very nice album! so is not that bad after all having all this mixes together (specially Read my mind, hallo spaceboy, and sorry that includes vocals by neil) all together in the same album! i cant wait to hear the integral mix and see the video!

Isn't that book about how Web 2.0 sites like Wikipedia are utilitarian and killing individuality?
