This is actually exactly the kind of stuff that I want to see PSB do more of. Big melancholy, electronic stuff.

I just listened to the 2 'Perfect Immaculate' remixes and I am so disappointed.
The Fundamental album version sounds fresh and full of energy. When I first heard the album version it reminded me of the energetic songs from the top of their carreer: now that is a perfect immaculate song.
But now the new remixes. Completely dull. Lost all the original energy. Sounds like a bad remix belonging on Disco 3. Having heard these, I am so happy they decided against a single release because it would have flopped so badly, the Numb chart record would have been broken...
*listening to Fundamental version* Now this is bliss!

Whereas the album version is quite epic and excellent, I do also like these two new mixes. I prefer the 7 inch version to the long version because it compresses everything that's good in the long version in half the size, without the incredibly long live audience sounds. I like that it's so electronic. BUT, although it's a nice alternative to the album it is no match. I can see now why this version at least was not released as a single.

It's a brillant remix! WTF are you on about!?or, how to ruin a great song. i've never disliked a psb remix more than this one, save the e-smoove liberation accident. in this state it could never hit radio, clubs, or even woolworths.
Listen to the remix and pretend the original "Integral" didn't exisit on Fundamental.. what would you think then?

I'm really surprised that most of us are so negative. They want to stick to the original and not to try something new, that's fine.
I still think 7" version is quite good, not as bad as u guys think. Of course the album version is the best but we should definitely give the new mix a chance! The public reaction is not known yet as it's not released

I think Syncratic's got it spot on.Syncratic wrote:Well 10 out of 10 for stating the obvious. I'm quite aware of the sterile nature and its metaphor for the themes of the song. Alternatively you could look at the cheesy nature of the original and take that version from the perspective of the smug and self-congratulatory nature of new labour and the trend of making announcements. In fact the original was more of a justaposition which makes the themes even more dark, rather like Go West, which although being a big gay discofest camp song, emphasises the nature of the dream gone wrong. Same goes for Fugitive. It's euphoric and four on the floor dance number but is incredibly devastating. We don't really need something being spelt out and made obvious, so therefore we slow it down, add the vocoder, change the structure, etc. It's always been obvious that the song was a dark song.
What I'm concerned more with is despite the coldness of this electro version, it just doesn't sound captivating or interesting on any level. They could have still kept the structure of the original and made that more electronic and kept many of the new elements, like Paninaro '95, which again had a sadder tinge because of the loss of a loved one, hence the new verses.
All I'll add is to say that I think PSB did a better job of "remixing" Integral than they did with I'm With Stupid.

Hmmm. My thoughts are the following: I don't think the new mixes are as good as the original version, BUT I'm glad that they decided to do and release these new mixes. After all, it would have been terrible to let us fans with only ONE version of "Integral" (not counting live versions), as I still think of it as one of their best songs ever.
What I don't like is the male choir. What I do like are parts of the new mixes though. There are parts that clearly remind me of Madonna's "Sorry"! It is notable that the melody seems so re-worked (in the part "everyone has their own number"). So I'm not sure if it could even be called the same song anymore. And even the longer version sounds all too short. My biggest wish didn't come true, that is, hearing a very long extended mix of the original.
But you can never have everything.
