And if so does your cable or satellite provider have enough HD channels?

Yes to the first half and a big NO for the second part. I hate TWC!!!

We're in the same boat -HDTV with TWC. Get ready to lease the infamous digital set-top box, $10 a month I've heard. However, sat dish TV provided by Dish Network has all-digital channels, too bad TWC is my internet provider.

In the U.K, we have Sky and Virgin Media. I don't think VM have as many HD channels as Sky do. Also, don't get roped into what you see in the shops. There are different HDTV cables you can get. Some are cheap and some are over £100 ($200) So in a shop, they will make sure the t.v is set up with the best to rope you in.

As for t.v.'s in my experience, A Plasma t.v blows the LCD t.v away. It might not be a necessity to have HDTV with a Plasma, if the t.v is so good.

It would be hard for Sky to have less since VM only have one (BBC HD). There is HD content on Video On Demand for free tho' as well as HD movies for a couple of quid.

Don't pay anything more than £5 for a HDMI cable, its digital so the quality doesn't matter one jot.

I own a Full HD Sharp Aquos since december. I´m having satellite equipment. HD channels only come through pay tv. For me in germany it´s Discovery HD and Premiere HD (movie channel). The quality is amazing.

Make sure your HDMI cable follows the standard 1.3a. Otherwise you´re getting troubles watching blu ray discs. The datarate is of BD very high. But, does not mean, that they are more expensive. Just watch out.

Just 2 weeks into owning a Samsung 71 series, 46 in. LCD. A vast improvement, but it's comic how it makes you impatient with non-HD channels, lol. We have 60 HD, but, whatever.

Watching the Oscars, I couldn't concentrate on what Jon Stewart was saying at one point, because a feather from some actress's gown was fluttering about on the pristine stage. Lots of showbiz people hate HD, you can see every wrinkle and nose hair, and how cheap set construction is!

VERY STRANGE- my TV comes with a newish feature called 120hz motion correction, meant to compensate for LCD motion blur. It actually gives me motion sickness, but the weirdest thing-
because it "fills in" frames, it makes a 24fps film-based movie look like videotape.

It's astonishing- watching a 1930's Garbo movie, it looks like b+w videotape! That "real" immediacy is striking, but it wrenches the movie out of the 1930's into the 60's visually. It's intriguing, but strips 24fps filmed movies of every bit of atmosphere and mystery, that visual dreaminess of film, as opposed to video.

I keep this feature turned off. But HDtv has been a revelation. "PopArt" by PSB, you can see how vastly the visual quality improves the later you go (on my Oppo up-sampling DVD player).

But HD doesn't really matter if you're watching a crap movie, lol. You get jaded quickly.

Play an Xbox 360 or PS3 on them and get more out of them!
That's it, it's all over. We're out of here. What a Legacy! (c) Chris Lowe 2009
