That would be an excellent approach against the better sides away from home but it took the rumours of an imminent sacking to force him to play his best players all the time. If he had done that at the beginning of the season, they would be in with half a shout.
Leeds didn't deserve it. We had probably 75% of the game, had loads of chances (but unfortunately couldn't hit the net) - watch the highlights on Virgin media site before they disappear for proof of that. Leeds took the one chance they got, and that was from a debatable free kick decision, but I couldn't argue with how sweetly that free kick was struck.
Looks like the play offs lottery for us now. I can't stand play offs but we have wobbled too much and for too long for automatic now - unless we constantly win and Carlisle constantly lose. Oh well...
Just watched the Arse go 1-0 up and lose 2-1 again. Must be a new song in there somewhere. I'm secretly glad because it means Chelsea probably won't win the title now but still would have preferred Arsenal to win something this season and I really can't believe that there are morons on the radio calling for Arsene to be sacked - what is it with this win at all costs rubbish? Chelsea drew 4-4 with Spurs in a bona fide classic and their moronic fans were calling for Inspector Dreyfus's head, but then you expect that with Chelsea.....

Fickle football fans (excuse the alliteration) are one of my absolute pet hates. Arsenal fans calling for Wenger's head simply don't know how good they've got it. OK, they won't win anything this season but some of the football they've played has been on a different planet and a joy to watch. I hate the win-at-all-costs mentality as well - football should be about entertainment too and if I was an Arsenal fan I'd gladly pay over the odds to watch them.
Unfortunately, fickledom is a nationwide phenomenon. There were Southend fans calling for Steve Tilson's head around Christmas and it absolutely incensed me. This is a man who almost singlehandedly saved the Shrimpers from relegation to the Conference four years ago. Since then we've won two promotions, reached two LDV finals, beaten Manchester United in the Carling Cup and look good for a play-off spot in League One this season. The idiots have thankfully been shouted down since.

With Donny 4-0 up with 25 mins to go, it looks there'll be a decider at Wembley! I wish I could go but I'm going to be in Wales next wekend. Sam and I went to the semi-final first leg on Monday and had a great time even though we lost it 2-1. I felt we had what it took to turn Carlisle over at their place and I turned out to be right.
C'mon the Whites! Marching on together!
We are star stuff which has taken its destiny into its own hands. The loom of time and space works the most astonishing transformations of matter. We are a way for the universe to know itself.
Donny's performance last night was the best so far by any play off team this time around. They tore Southend to shreads. God knows how they didn't go up automatically if they can play like that.
I thought Southend were poor in both legs, especially up front.

That hat trick was something else!!!
That's it, it's all over. We're out of here. What a Legacy! (c) Chris Lowe 2009
As a Southend fan I'm still utterly shell-shocked by last night's game. Admittedly it would have been interesting if Walker had scored for us early on, and I thought the penalty decision was iffy as well, but Donny were brilliant and clinical. I doubt Coppinger will ever play that well again - he'd barely scored all season before last night but his three goals were sensational.
Still, at least our fans did us proud - 5-0 down and still doing the conga! The biggest heartache for me is that I live about two miles from Wembley.

Evertonians are born not manufactured.
We do not choose; we are chosen.
Those who understand need no explanation.
Those that don't understand don't matter.
I was there last night, of course. It was a brilliant night, and really showed the watching world what Doncaster Rovers are truly capable of when they want to. Shame we didn't play like that against Cheltenham the other week - if we did we'd have been up at Forest's expense!
Coppinger is a funny one. Sometimes he's the most skilful player in the team, it's just that 50% of the time he's far from it and is nothing other than average.
Got my tickets for Wembley. Play like we did last night and I don't think Leeds have got a chance. I just hope the correct Rovers turn up!
Oh, the Southend fans last night were a credit to themselves, their club, and football in general. I've not seen a better bunch since we moved to our new ground. 5-0 down and still partying like they were 5-0 up!
