Erasure Dont Deserve a Brit Outstanding Achievement

Erasure have had the outstanding achievement of 5 number 1 albums so I still believe they deserve a Brit!

They've missed the boat for a Brit. If they were to get one, they'd have got it 15 years ago. Erasure have no place in todays music industry and they do not seem able to diversify in any way that would enable them to continue and hence deserve any kind of award. 2004, PSB recieved Q's inspiration award. 5 years later they are awarded the Brits outstanding achievement award. Music press in general seem to think they are still at a high point in their careers and have been for the last 5 years. What Erasure fans dont understand or fail to appreciate is that they are off the radar.

Rubbish! Yes it is nice of the PSB to be getting the Brit but has little importance at the end of the day. The most important thing is that they continue to make music and to say that Erasure have no place in todays music industry is pretty small minded! No place in today's music industry!! Because you don't like their music!! WTF!! There are pleanty of people that do like Erasure's music whether you like it or not but to say what you do simply because you don't like a group is ridiculous!! I really liked the last few Erasure albums and I couldn't care less whether they are commercially successful or not. A week or two in the top 10 like PSB is hardly a commercial success now is it? And if you want to judge me because I liked the last few Erasure albums then make my day and I can judge you on Barenaked ladies if you want! Are they Off the radar? What radar anyway? Erasure are an electro pop group that to this day make electro pop albums that you don't like! Simple as that.
Oh and Erasure got a Brit for Best group in 1989 so in fact you are wrong by saying they missed the boat for a Brit anyway.

No they don't but they are doing better than most acts that are still in the trade 20+ years later. A top 5 album and top 10 singles still and these released in very busy periods. Not only that, they have contributed in big hits for other major artists of late, like Robbie Williams, Madonna. Rufus Wainwright and Girls Aloud. Thats some C.V there, whichever way you slice it.

Is remixing a song or being executive director to an album really contributing to a big hit? Wasn't the Robbie album a bit of a flop? Rufus Wainwright's album was a big hit? I'm not taking anything away from the Boys who I am a big fan of but at the same time I don't see that giving them overdue credit for side projects is really necessary. Fair to say the side projects help keep the PSB in the public eye a bit too, isn't it?

Quite simple, reallly. The more people out shopping, the more you will sell. f*** hell, thats a no-brainer, surely? Whats the point of releasing stuff in January when no sod has any money?

How's it overdue credit? If you have put in the work, you deserve recognition. Similar to how much credit Trevor Horn received for his part in Fundamental.

The public obviously got wise to their frequent January cheat strategies, thus forcing said inferior pop duo to attempt to piggyback on the awards success of the first electronic act to be given the highest Brits honour in the land.

January is one of the worst times of year for retail outlets. January - March have always been dead periods. People are generally skint. Even more so at the moment with this so called recession on the way. Thats why you might see a lot of sales starting now - Xmas.

As somebody who genuinely liked Erasure in the 80s/early 90s (but always preferred PSB), they just strike me as having run out of ideas. Releasing an acoustic album of some of your old songs, a covers album and two greatest hits collections in the last few years doesn't suggest to me that they're brimming over with ideas. I got the impression that Vince was more excited by the recent Yazoo reunion than he's been about Erasure for a while.

The one thing PSB detractors can't say about PSB is that they have ever run out of ideas. Even if that is obscure vanity projects, preposterous ballets or Elton-related high jinks, they've never (touchwood) had to resort to PSB Unplugged or PSB Mimetically. The fact that PSB will be releasing a brand new album produced by contemporary pop producers in the New Year whilst Erasure hawk their 80s hits around the block again does speak volumes.

Ran out of ideas?
Since 2000 Erasure have released 3 studio albums (new material) and the PSB 2 until next year. How exactly have they run out of ideas? DM have also released a lot of compilation and remix albums which tells me that it is something mute likes to do. I would love the PSB to release a remix album of older songs done by modern remixers but it may never happen. The Disco series of albums is hardly inventive is it? Most of them are full of previously released material! I suppose they don't count as having run out of ideas when they release them!

Theres nothing fresh at all. Just because you release a lot of albums, doesn't mean they are full of great stuff and fresh idea's. Maybe thats why they have stalled somewhat. They have gone for quantity over quality

How is a two-part complete singles collection and one Best Of, plus one remix album 'a lot'? DM also released their first album a full five years before Erasure so there's more material to collate.

Yes there is a bit more material but had material recycled on quite a few discs. Especially the last one. Just using it as an example but obviosly if it is not 100% accurate then it doesn't count for you! Even with Yazoo they have had a few "best of's" plus the recent remasters. Not too much new material there either.

Depends what you mean by Great stuff and fresh ideas! They are an electro pop duo that make electro pop records! What is crap to you could be great to someone else. Sorry but fine the PSB may experiment a bit more but I don't necessarily like the songs better just for that fact and what I believe the fans really like is a more electronic album which is what I am sure will happen with Xenomania. I like it that Erasure stick to what they are best at and the last few albums I find great!
And as for the casual fans well you can't please everybody but that is life I suppose.

Here we go again! Nope, since 2000 PSB have completed 3 studio albums, and produced two soundtrack albums of almost completely new material, plus half of Disco 3 was exclusive stuff to boot. It's really not sinking in, is it? Next!

There was a Only You: Best Of Yazoo in 1999 and this year saw a complete box set of remasters. Would you like to explain to how that constitutes a "few" best ofs?

I've a plan for you - it might be a novel idea, and one that you may not have considered before, but if you feel the urge to make another post on this or any other forum, if there is a good chance that, if I may quote, "it is not 100% accurate" because in your repetitively rabid haste you haven't bothered to check your, er, 'facts', perhaps you may want to hesitate before hitting the submit button.
