The definition of a true movie star used to be someone like Cary Grant, who was a good actor with charm by the bucketload, fantastic comic timing and improvised repartee, and not to mention Hollywood handsomeness to die for, but who, at the end if the day, you never ever forget that it was Cary Grant on the screen, because he always played versions of the character of Cary Grant he created- the complete opposite of a character actor, in other words.
