Oh come on. That's the rationale of the Israelis, "We're only bombing you because of Hamas. It's Hamas that is actually raining down tonnes of bombs on Gaza."

It's a bloody scandal. The UN will of course do nothing and the United States of Israel will continue to support these 'pogroms' and 'holocausts'.

the UN, which actually has always generally been antagonistic to american and Israel by default...will not do anything because the palestinians dont inspire any sympathy except lip service from anyone in addition to the UN.

Like anyone, Israel has a right to defend itself. Whether the respnse is "proportionate" is a matter of opinion, and arguably they should take more care to minimise the loss of civilian life when targeting terrorists and militants, but they're not "murdering" anyone.

retaliation is fair enough, but surely airstrikes on this scale are disproportionate.. Surely Israel with one the of most well trained and equipped military forces in the world are capable of smaller scale targeted raids. The leaders of Hamas are of course to blame, they know full well what they are doing with these mortar attacks and inflammatory rhetoric, knowing full well that they won't be the ones to suffer, which shows the same level of contempt for the average Palestinian that Israel govt. shows with these airstrikes

'Israel' doesn't have any right to defend itself - Palestine does. Bit strange to claim they're not murdering anyone - what would you call having bombs dropped on you? Friendly fire? Happy Hanukkah?

I'd dispute that Israel doesn't have a right to defend itself, surely a role of any country is to defend its citizens. Whether the state of Israel should exist or the question of land it has occupied is to a certain extent not the key issue here, Israeli innocents are being deliberately murdered by Hamas, it is little different to the Israeli government knowing full well that innocents will be killed and not giving a shit. Peace is not always a goal with many of these actions, some people just want these conflicts as it fulfills a role for them. If Israel packed up and moved out of the region tomorrow, there would be some Arabic terrorists/freedom fighters (take your pick) who would still carry out attacks due to indoctrination and pure unbridled illogical hatred

I'm just fed up with Israeli propaganda. The actions of the last couple of days are so reprehensible and out of proportion that they are a Rubicon of sorts. We can argue forever about the creation of Israel but they simply can't go on committing atrocities like this anymore.

And whilst I agree there will always be fundamentalists whatever happens, you simply can't eject a people from their land and not expect repercussions.

the problem of course is that on one side you have the Israelis who hold a huge influence on the worlds most powerful nation and consequently other nations and on the other side the notion of holy war and martyrdom. Sadly I cannot see the Middle East situation ever being resolved ergo it is mopst likely to be the touchpaper for the next large scale conflict, although Russia seems to be doing its best to catch up....................................cue Parkol

if your going to commit,you do it with massive power to, in the end...minimize the loss of life of your OWN people,not the other guys.

besides,who decides how many deaths constitute disportionate. we're so soft that a couple hundred deaths in a air bombing attack is now dresden.
