Galata.

people in the muslim world and even some weirdo's in the west actually seem incredulous when Israel attacks back after being attacked.

the focus as usual is on the degree of the Israeli attack,in a pretty transparent attempt to not have to adress the continual attacks by hamas that put the lives of regular palestinians in anger.

you and some others will do anything rather than adress that. its key to why the palestinians will always suffer.

Another [edited by moderator] cesspit of idiocy, this thread.

Can we just acknowledge that Palestinians are human beings? 1.5 million people packed into a tiny slice of land, forbidden to leave, starved of food and medicine, shelled and slaughtered because someone sent a firecracker Israel's way. I acknowledge Israel's right to exist and "defend itself" (sigh) but they are conducting a massacre.
Yet the BBC and American media describe it as an attack on "Hamas", and not the Palestinian people. Mosques, hospitals, actual human people being blown to bits. And not one representative of these poor people is allowed to speak in Western media: no, just endless PR from Israel , no opposing point of view in defense of innocent people trapped and doomed and under assault.

And our tax money in the US goes to support this. A trillion by now, and Israel has stolen secrets, betrayed us again and again, cynically used us, dragged the US into their barbarous inhumane treatment of Palestinians, absolutely fouled any chance at peace. It's no coincidence this slaughter is happening now, before Obama is President- they are purposefully screwing any idea of a peace accord, doing the dirty work now while that hideous layabout warmonger W is out to lunch, they know he doesn't give a shit.

There are many good Israelis who hate their right-wing government, hate the intense cruelty inflicted, hate the pouring of gasoline on conflict. But we never get to hear their voices. We never get to hear their point of view. It's a sad sick synchrony of the corporate media- war is good for business. The Palestinians get no say, no voice. There's no money to be made.

A [edited by moderator] tragedy and a shame on all of us. Israel can't stop feeling sorry for itself and acts offended when its observed that they force Palestinians to live like subhumans, rats. They've established their own Warsaw ghetto- no exit, no hope, no food- and they act the aggrieved party when resistance is shown, running the the US media to defend their unconsciable violence against innocent civilians.

I'm still amazed people get worked up about this stuff - and I'm speaking as somebody who has so often been in the thick of it. We've been having this discussion for 10 years, be it on Dot, Host, S*y, Aimoo, or Community. All of the Robert Fisks on the planet couldn't convince some people of the rights and wrongs of the whole sorry affair.

I suppose there's a comfort in walking into the same old virtual saloon after all these years and seeing the Ridgester propping up the bar to the right and Galata pontificating to the left, with the odd Molotov cocktail lobbed in by Deschanel, when he staggers in from a debauched evening in the Hamptons.

It's a new year, but little changes. And that's not always a bad thing...

I know, we need some new material. hopefully 2009 gives us some new wars and disasters so we can talk about some other stuff.

Good to see that antisemitism paired with utter lunacy, ignorance of history and the truth is well alive on the left.

The Islam ideology is based on antisemitism and antichristianism. There is never gonna be any peace with Israel because Islam's goal is to annihilate Israel and all Jews. The Palestinians already have their own state: Jordan! They could easily be assimilated by their Arab brethren. They could also easily live peacefully in Israel, just like many Arabs do. But they choose to launch rockets on Israel. Israel historically belongs to the Jews and Arabs came to Israel after the Jews had turned the desert land into an oasis. The Arabs came as immigrants looking for work. The land never belonged to them. After WWII, the Arabs declared war on Israel and asked the Palestinians to leave Israel and return after the Arabs would have killed all Jews. So the Palestinians were never forced out of Israel. They left because their Arab brethrens promised them a quick victory. Then, when Israel won, they remained in Palestine. And the Arab nations are using the Palestinians to keep this conflict up. Palestine never was Arab territory. Arabs don't belong there. It's just a tiny, arid piece of land they entered as immigrants. Why don't they just return to their Arab home countries? Because that way, they can keep killing Jews and pretend that the reason for their misery is Israeli occupation. Liar liar pants on fire!

I've always found it telling that so many Americans side with Israel. Of course, that would have nothing to do with the little fact that "Americans" themselves arrived from abroad, butchered an indigenous people, and permanently occupied their land.

Lots in common and hard to pretend otherwise in a society where might is always right.

I never believe anyones sincerity on that point. I just dont believe liberal minded people in the west do anything but internet care for the palestinians or whose land is taken.

when I see people who consider themselves liberal...that is people who go on about gay rights,or freedom from religion, and then they go on to switch gears and side with a people who embrace fundi islam, I feel like I am watching when elton embraced eminem.

you know, like watching someone who is just really confused in a bizzare sort of way.

This is a fantasy of genocide. I find it very sad that Jewish people emulate the Nazis.
And we have to watch while it is acted out in slow motion.
And I am constantly amazed that Jewish people don't see the irony of the kill ratio :
- That One Hundred Palestinians must die for every Israeli.

Giving justice to the Palestinians will benefit Jewish people as they can rid themselves
of such toxic politics. Isn't that obvious ?

I watched Hotel Rwanda with a friend last night.
And within a minute afterwards he was making jokes about wiping out all the Muslims here.
Well done Alig.

emulating the nazi. oh brother. you sir...obviously dont know what the germans did when they had the military capability. meanwhile the Israeli also have the military power to wipe them out, and they constantly put up with these palestinians year after year after year.

you totally showed how biased you are with that one very goofball statement.
