Vicky Christina Barcelona

#1 Post by skyhigh »

Two girlfriends on a summer holiday in Spain become enamored with the same painter, unaware that his ex-wife, with whom he has a tempestuous relationship, is about to re-enter the picture.

A masterclass in scriptwriting from Woody Allen. Beautiful film with a gorgeous cast. Scarlett Johansen as the whimsical american, Rebecca Hall (who's character is superb, very in depth) as her more reserved friend. Penelope Cruz looking amazing and playing a fiery, hilarious, artistic 'genius'. javier Barden as the lucky sod who gets to bed all three!

Well worth a watch because it's exceptional.

That's it, it's all over. We're out of here. What a Legacy! (c) Chris Lowe 2009

I am glad that I did see the film before I could see the trailer.

Woody Allen fan here also. Still, I didn`t like Match Point (the last film by him that I saw)... maybe because it wasn`t located in New York. Looking forward to see this another one not set in his beloved city.

Great film! One of the few memorable films I saw in 2008. Rebecca Hall's character was great.

I generally enjoy Woody Allen films albiet it the hit and miss nature of them. He'll never match the heights of Annie Hall or Sleeper as far as I'm concerned but you have to hand it to him, he's given the world some memorable films over the years. I think 'Sweet and Lowdown' is regraded as his last critical success and apparently this one, although I wouldn't have seen it, may do well, although you wouldn't think so from the predictable premise.

Penelope Cruz really owns the film. Her tantrums in spanish are hilarious...The beautiful sequence on the grass reminded me of a very underrated Allen movie, "A midsummer night's sex comedy".

Sounds awful. Like Lydia being turned away from a PSB signing. Again.
