A truly fantastic, one of a kind guy and an inspiration to everyone who had the pleasure of watching his programmes.

I remember listening to him on Jeremy Vine's radio show last year talking about his strokes, and was nearly moved to tears when he said he was no longer able to draw.

A fine gentleman, he will be missed.

I think a lot of us 'children of the 80's' in the UK will remember Tony Hart with great affection. He always came across as a very kind man, exceptionally talented and very enthusiastic. He made great television and I can't think of anything on childrens TV back in the day that was as well received by myself, other than anything by the equally brilliant Johnny Ball.

I hope that a tribute/retrospective show is made so we can once again enjoy his work. Oh, and Morph is definitely overdue a comeback!

Really sad news.I grew up watching this man on TV.He inspired generations of children, including myself, to be creative and to enjoy painting and drawing.We will never see his like again.

In one of those weird coincidences, i was just thinking about him (this was about 3 days ago) and wondering whether he was still with us. I got to meet him when he came to narrate a children's concert in Maidstone when I was a kid. He brightened up many people's lives

This winter has dealt a real blow to memorable children's TV programmes. Last month we also lost Oliver Postgate, the creator of Bagpuss, The Clangers and Ivor the Engine.

Yes, that's him. He said some great stuff about Tony- how he had pioneered children's TV presenting and had set the format for so many things, and what an honour it was to work with such a nice guy. And when he was so cut up, it was such a shame.
