Ever get stuck listening to one band for weeks?

#1 Post by StevePSB »

I do. At the moment I can't stop listening to Ultravox, they've been the band I most often play since the middle of last month listening to them on my iPod in hospital, and I am still listening to them right now! Currently 'Serenade' off the album 'Quartet'.

I've had this before, weeks listening to Depeche Mode or OMD. Not sure how long this Ultravox fixation will last, but I'm loving it!

I don't know about listening totally exclusively to one band, but I certainly have gone through phases where the vast majority of my listening was centered very much aroud one band or artist. In the last year I have gone through phases like that with Suede, Genesis, Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Mike Oldfield, Eurythmics, Blur, The Who and (gasp!) PSB. I can remember going through phases like this with The Stranglers and The Human League too.

My favourite Ultravox album (and song, come to think of it) is Lament BTW.

Bee Gees! LOL!

Sorry!

Currently listening to Lament album as it happens! I have listened to little bits and bobs of other stuff these last few weeks(and, yes, some PSB), but I keep coming back to Ultravox - I can't stay away!

Yes, I had my Ultravox-age too. Kept listening all their Midge albums.

I think they're ver under-rated. They were doing the sort of stuff Radiohead is admired for, just only about 15-20 years after.

But my one-band listening age was between 1987-1991, when I was listening only PSB. I though the rest of the bands was just shit. In fact, my only cassette for almost two years was Introspective, so I remember every note on this album after millions of played times.

Until I discovered DM's Violator and U2's Achtung Baby...
Do I have to?

Yup, apart from PSB which I seemed to listen to exclusively for long periods when I was younger  , I've had recent months in the last year or two, where all I've listened to are BWO, Elegant Machinery and The Killers (only 2 songs Human and Somebody Told me (all the mixes))

One song which I seem to listen to every morning on the way to work is Kids (PSB synthpop mix) It's more addictive than crack ! (I'd imagine   )

I know someone who reckons the BeeGees are overdue a "serious" critical re-evaluation, pointing out that it happened to The Beach Boys and ABBA and in some ways you can't get much campier than either of them! The thing with the BeeGees is they changed a lot over time so a lot of people probably only judge them on their "disco" phase, which as far as I know only takes up a small part of their output.

Girls Aloud. When 'The Loving Kind' was released, I started to listen to a lot of other songs by them as well, and it's been a few weeks now. ;-)

Apart from Girls Aloud, I've only been stuck to Pet Shop Boys.
I love passion.

It happened to me with Camera Obscura's Let's Get Out Of This Country album, which I fell in love with big time. More recently though, I went mad for the Advisory Circle's Other Channels album. So much so, that they entered my Last.fm chart straight in to the top 15 most played artists.
