Re: It Doesn't often snow....
Computer off today ; 4th day of >40C temperatures.
Bushfires have swept country Victoria today.
Whole towns wiped out.
600+ homes destroyed, official death toll 65 and climbing.
Hundreds badly burned, 8 of whom are not expected to live.
We know this is global warming. Fires that used to come every 100 years now come every 10 years.
There is less rain and the land is so dry. I can see the same thing is happening in California, Spain & Greece.
Yes some fires are started by arsonists ; but the conditions are caused by Global Warming.
While neo-conservatives argue that GW is a socialist plot, we are dying.

Sorry for being a downer.
It's just the international media will play down that it's linked to GW.
And I want something good to come from it ;
... that the PSB fanbase will speak up against GW.
I really want to say thank you to the BBC who made it the lead story.
And all the wonderful people of the UK who have shown support.

It's hard to comprehend what is happening in Australia. I have a friend in Victoria and she says every house in the street but hers has gone and many of her neighbours have died. Jesus.
*stops moaning about the snow in the UK*
Btw Greg, the fires in Oz are still very much the lead story on the UK news.

Re: It Doesn't often snow....
Some are arson RP, but GW is the underlying cause.
Each year, less rain, hotter temps and the bush dries out more.
Arson doesn't work if the rain is normal. Saying this so that some
good may come of this : if just one PSB fan up there, speaks up.
Forgive the thread hijack ; I was enjoying the Winter pics.
Everyone is a bit traumatised here. I have a girl friend with same illness as me
down there, and I cant contact her.
Story in yesterdays paper : City person was staying at a bush property when
there was a knock on the door. Opened and small girl and her father. Little girl
was badly burnt but the father much worse. He says "My wife and son are dead,
but please just save my daughter" then collapses.
What's interesting is the GW effect. These super fires (some moved 120 k/m hour)
are going to be normal. It may not be possible to get home insurance for country houses.
People may have to build fire shelters like bomb shelters in the garden.
Thanks for your kind words Dipso, lots of support has come thru from UK and
I think drawn us, both countries, all a bit closer. |crysmile|

Had our first proper snowfall for years today. Escaped most of it last week. Don't have to go into work at least but snow is nothing compared to those fires.

Re: It Doesn't often snow....
The illness I have screws up the way our brain senses temperature.
For me, anything below about 23C (now) and my body gets cramps and flu symptoms.
A girl (space) friend also with ME is the opposite. Anything above 18C and she gets worse.
She flew home for Xmas arrived at the airport, windy and [edit]12C, loving it in a T-shirt.
I like many Aussies love the snow. To us it is alien and magical.
I saw snow once when I was 12, then once when I was 16, then 24.
When we used to fly to Denver for work, all the Aussies would sneak off to go snow mobile-ing in the Rockies.

But if I don't get better, I will move to the beach, at least 25m above sea level.

Wondered what was 'wrong' when you mentioned your illness before but I didn't want to ask. Just a little extra snow on the ground tonight in Hounslow (since the thaw we have had in the meantime after the last lot).
I'm your puppet

yep all terrain. you dont have to tell me about colorado I know it fairly well.
I go to Coors field once in a while to see the Colorado Rockies play and been to red rocks to see the band wide spread panic. I have some friends there I used to go to college with.
I wish I could get out there more.
