Here's the thing: Evolution is now a very well established scientific principle. If you want to get a handle on how it works there are many books and websites you could read as well as TV shows you could watch.

If you want to get deeper into it you could study biology and then you'd be able to read and understand the latest ideas and participate in the peer review process. This is the core of the scientific method; scientists report exactly the experiments that lead them to form new theories so that others can repeat them and either agree or point out the flaws in their methods or assumptions.

Nothing in science is accepted simply on someone else's say-so. That's why it's such a powerful method for finding out about the world.

I always thought of them more as legends than fairy tales: Stories like that of King Arthur
and Robin Hood that may have some vague basis in historical fact but are essentially made up...

King Arthur is interesting. While most of it is made up, there is some evidence that after the Romans
pulled out of Brittania a Roman/Briton general fought the Anglo-Saxons. And his name was
Arcturius. Also there was a fort at Camelodeum. Not believing, but interesting.

Another good point to Evolution is molecular biology. The DNA molecule is near perfect as bio-memory
that allows gradual change, i.e. evolution. It is almost as if it is perfectly designed for the job.
In fact DNA is the best evidence there is for Intelligent Design, but they cannot use it without
conceding that Evolution is true.

It's even funnier when they deny what we can now prove, yet believe fervently in what are essentially fairy tales. The clincher for me is the clever way they make a virtue of believing in something that any rational mind would dismiss out of hand. They call it "faith."

You Greg perfectly summed up the Evolutionism question with these phrases. The structure of the DNA molecule is the best proof that there have been an evolutive process for all the living world. Still, the question is: who, or what did the Intelligent Design? Where does it come from? How life itself and the fantastic Evolution started?
Everytime I see a cute Panda cub for example, I see some kind of confirmation that such perfection needed a (divine?) sparkle to appear.
