The 'What the hell is wrong with everyone?' thread

#1 Post by StevePSB »

What is the world coming to? Getting so frustrated with our over-protective, health & safety lead, compensation culture society these days.

Here's my latest frustration:

I'm sure there'll be more links to come.

I've just got back from seeing the film Surrogate (not very good to be honest  ) but the basic premise is that people live their lives through robots, while they stay at home all safe and secure. Judging by ridiculous stories like the above, it wasn't as far fetched as first appears .....

If I were the woman who was told "You can't have the scissors because you might stab me" I would be absolutely livid !
It would probably be the very line that would actually make me do it, to be honest .....

Here's another corker. How have we got to this point, where someone is sacked for doing the right, proper and decent thing?! All common sense and compassion gone out of the of the window in strict, blinkered defence of a privacy policy. Obviously privacy is far more important than a young girl being seriously bullied and physically assaulted.

.... And you just know that if she hadn't told them, and it got out she witnessed the event but didn't say anything, she would have been in trouble for being an accessory to assault ....

^Yeah. The school have probably got rid of her to sweep it under the carpet...because they know it looks bad on them.
I dunno about everyone else but I'd be glad she told me if I was the parent...who knows what could have happened otherwise..

On a similar theme - at work (parts department within a Vauxhall dealership) we dispense antifreeze from large 205 litre drums into plastic milk bottles when a technician from the workshop requests antifreeze for a workshop job. Health and safety says that we have to make sure the milk bottles have 'ANTIFREEZE' written on them in case one of the technicians drinks it!! Given the technician has come to us and asked for antifreeze, he's going to have to have had a full frontal lobotomy to have been given the (BRIGHT ORANGE!) antifreeze and think it's milk. Ridiculous. :grumble:

It's the compensation culture inherited from our friends across the pond that has brought these stupid situations into reality in this country.

BTW - are the posted links in this thread available to view for non UK residents?

Oh, maybe you all just want to fend for yourself in the marketplace. Maybe there should be no government. Maybe we should be allowed to have as many women as we want. Wait, that doesn't sound so bad. 8)
And tryin' to figure out what happened to 'Germaine Propaine'
"He couldn't have fell off that hard" Ain't no way
"What happened to the way you was rappin' when you was scandalous
That Canibus turned into a television evangelist"
Plus he raps with his regular voice [BOOSH! BOOSH!]
[BOOSH! BOOSH!] (What was that?) Pet Shop Boys
