New phone suggestions

I think that given my old Siemens SXG75 is now over 4 years old, and therefore a little long in the tooth, that it is time to replace it.

I only ever bought Siemens mobile phones in the past (I like to be a little different from the crowd), but that company is now long gone, and I haven't really kept up with mobiles for years so I am a little 'out of the loop' as it were, so I need some suggestions.

As previously mentioned, I like to be a little different, so Nokia is definitely out of the question. I'm thinking maybe Sony Ericsson or Samsung at the moment.

Wi-fi and standalone navigation capability (preferably free) and a decent internet capability would be at the top of my wants list.

Oh, I'm pay as you go too, so cost is a little bit of an issue. I'd probably push to £300 for something very special.

Ive an iphone but lots of my mates are goin for the htc to break free from the apple stranglehold. they are in turn suggesting the htc is equal to if not beter than the iphone.

theres also a new samsung glaxy s android that may be worth a look.

I used to go for Samsung phones mostly, Nokias before that. But i always had problems with Nokias they've always got a fault on them somewhere. I got myself an iPhone 3gs a couple of months back.. It's a really really good phone best i've ever had.

Since i upgraded to os4.0 mine has become sluggish, agreed tho, it is a really really good phone!

I cant stand blackberrys.
their keys are just too small. I picture myself in the trunk of a serial killers car and I'm trying to dial 911 and I keep hitting all the wrong keys and after they find my corpse they will wonder why in the last moments of my life I dialed outback steakhouse instead of the police.

I have a samsung eternity, totally happy with it, nice sized screen,internet is very fast, an the GPS program which is called AT&T navigator is really good. it doesnt have apps though lik the I-phones.

Not particularly interested in an iPhone. Too expensive to buy and too expensive to run.

Not had a thorough look at it's capabilities, but can anyone recommend the Sony Ericsson W995? Looks nice and is about the right kind of money.

Since it's a different OS, it could take a little bit time to get used to it. But after you master it, you'll really like it

I like my phone but I was actually thinking about downgrading to a ridiculously simple small phone.no flip,no slide,no internet,no GPS none of that. I take notice of how every thing escalates concerning things we supposedly think we need and financially we follow suit and just accept it as a normal routine expense.

the expensive phone with the wide screen,the blue tooth,the cost for the internet,text messages,apps,headphones,phon carrying case,GPS,etc etc.
I'm not a hollywood movie agent. I hardly ever need to use any of that stuff yet I pay hundreds of dollars for it for all I can tell seemingly just to show people our baby pictures while on the go.

I can do all that stuff just by being patient and doing it when I get back to the apartment.

Question: how is it with iPhone as a phone, making calls in the UK or Europe? It's a wonderful pocket computer, but notorious in the US as a terrible phone. You can't have a long conversation on it, dropped calls are routine. No one's owned up to who's to blame, At&T or Apple. Are dropped calls on iPhone common in the UK?

(Don't mean to hijack Steve's thread and quest for a new phone, just curious.Please forgive. )

Not had any problem with the iphone as a phone.
