Holland has a good chance against Germany.
No, I like Argentina too, really but they have no chances. No chances against Germany, absolutely.
Germany would score more...

I was wondering when Pique was going to do something stupid. He would easily make the worst XI team.

What a crap penalty.

After another World Cup debacle we are still asking the same question we asked in 1974 when England failed to qualify - why can't we master a football and produce enough skilful players in our country? The future for the England team is frightening, because we have never confronted the decline in standards. There is no short-term fix, this requires a long-term strategy. I run an academy in Spain for young footballers who are released by their clubs and who, in my opinion, deserve a second chance. It is a rewarding job for me, but one that also reveals many of the faults in the English game. Here are my observations. There are skilful English footballers in the system, but why are they getting lost? We need to start at the beginning, with the development of schoolboys.

Seeing the picture

We need to start with a much lower age group and work with them on ball appreciation. A high percentage of the players released by their clubs who come for a trial at my academy are small; they are talented, they have the technique, they can pass the ball, but too often clubs desire athletes - tall, fast, strong footballers. 'He's a big lad, 6ft 2in and he can run... OK, we will keep him.'

They are obviously required attributes for a professional footballer, but big and strong comes next for me. My academy team played Real Madrid and one of our lads stood out because he had instant touch, but those players are two a penny in Spain and Holland, because they are taught to master the ball from a young age.
The Brits have a different posture; they are too short, probably they have to drink more milk. ;)

But we love the Brits so so much because of their music. That's more important than football.

Germany, the romantic heroes of this World Cup. They'll be remembered forever now - but romantic heroes rarely win World Cups (and that simply makes the memory more poignant). I think the Spanish - who've been effective but unspectacular, ironically enough - are more the finished article and will have a little too much, but the Germans have been glorious.

It would be nice if some of England's current squad could see this Gazza and England story of 1990. Players like Terry Butcher would never accept knob heads like Terry, Cole and Lampard in the dressing room.

Yes, I must confess that even I had a tear in my eye during that. Proof that football existed before the Premier League, and that Gazza and the dead of Hillsborough were the sacrificial lambs on which the embourgeoisement of football gorged itself. Arise, Sir Dave Richards.

I really enjoyed the Italia 90 programme too. I had forgotten how good a player Gary Lineker was, to be honest.

What are we making of Ronaldo's baby? It has a touch of Ricky Martin about it.

Ronaldo's so consumed with self-love that he's managed to impregnate himself.

Lineker would have got into any team from 1985 - 1992. He was lethal. All he ever did was tap the ball in from a few yards. It all seemed too easy but very few players could actually do it.

Actually I've come round to him as a presenter during this tournament, if only because the alternative is Colin Murray.
