Hello Petheads!
I'm quite excited that I have a potential job opportunity that will move me from the US to the UK. I'd be based in London and am really excited about it and nervous of course all at the same time! I just had a few quick questions for you Brits.
- I'm looking to live in the city and Battersea has been recommended. Thoughts?
- I'm totally fond of new/modern/updated apartments or lofts (really love it when old buildings have been restored and updated with stainless steel, granite countertops, and other current furnishings)...is there a good area for this? (I'm looking to spend no more than £1260 per month on rent)
- I'll be working in or near Covent Garden so commute is important as well
- It would be ideal to have great cafes, pubs, shops, groceries, etc. nearby
Anything you all can offer would be awesome. Thanks so much!

Potential UK Job Opportunity in London!
Re: Potential UK Job Opportunity in London!
Battersea is in south london and has been 'gentrified' in recent years - is near to Chelsea.
I would imagine you would get something for what you are willing to pay. Winkworths is an 'upmarket' estate agency that probably has an office in, or pretty near, Battersea.
Apparently it is difficult to get back to south london by cab at night.
Covent Garden is full of those sorts of places - cafes, shops etc.
Not sure of the tube journey from Battersea but Covent Garden is on the Piccadilly (tube) line. you can also get the number 19 or number 14 bus from Battersea, both go pretty near to Covent Garden.
