The "New" Depeche Mode single (personal jesus 2011) to preceed the Remixes 2 package has floundered at 190 in the UK charts! That's with download AND a physical format. Kinda puts the "Together" chart placing into perspective. I'm interested to see how the album fares next week. I am, and have always been, a DM fan but even i think the Remixes 2 album is poor to average. Some missed opportunities (the Shep Pettibone Remix of Behind The Wheel ommitted) and pointless no resemblence to the original updates (hello Eric Prydz) won't entice the casual fan i believe.

Just my two cents worth. 8)

If it were download only, you could understand it but with a physical involved, that's pretty bad.

Sounds of the Universe has sold around 60,000 copies in the U.K.

To be honest, I don't think there is much context in which to place Together. Unlike the DM track, which is a remix of a 21-year-old track, Together was original material. A better comparison would be with, say, a remix of So Hard. Even then, are we surprised? Pop stars over 40 face an obvious inevitable commercial decline.

The charts work differently these days. The old marketing/release modus operandi that was successful in the 1980s was appropriate for an environment where there were very few new records released of a given week and where all releases were physical. Now, everything is a "single". Let's face it, the "single" as we knew it no longer exists, so why would the singles chart?

A bit surprised that it only got to 190, looks like even DM fans have snubbed it.
I'll be buying the remixes album but not the single. 3 of the Personal Jesus remixes are on the album anyway aren't they? Probably didn't help sales. Of course it would have sold better if it was a new song from a new album but still pretty poor.
Wonder where the album will get in the charts? Top 100? Probably not.

Has anyone heard Domink Eulburg's new album? It has a track called Islandmuschel 400 which sounds just like a dub of Behind the Wheel/Little 15. Good album despite the bit of plagarism.

I haven't heard Personal Jesus 2011, but I can't say it's making me jump out of my seat. Not even bothered enough to try to see if it's on youtube really.

You only need 3,000 sales to get top 40 in the album chart. It will easily achieve that.

Yeah, I thought that, so it's not too bad. Let's not forget that the chart's are based on where Erasure chart now so well done DM!

I think it's just a souvineer/trinket for the fans and, as already mentioned, it's on their album. A re-recording of Kate Bush's Deeper Understanding only got to 87, yet the album toppled Adele for a couple of days midweeks until it officialy landed at number two.

That's good news then, but knowing they only need 3,000 sales for top 40 made that a sure fire thing. Seems like the singles chart is the one that is hard to crack nowadays, most albums should easily get top 40 for at least one week now anyway. Maybe not Erasure's new one of course, but that's obvious. Just ask Patrick, he doesn't like them, apparently.

"Veteran" acts like PSB, DM and the like don't stand much of a chance in the singles chart in this day and age.

Add in the fact that it's yet another remix of a 20-year-old track, and #190 doesn't seem so surprising.
