Maybe they can hit the current PSB heights? Maybe height's isn't the right word? I imagine that there must be PSB album's high up on the itunes chart too with them performing to the billions Undertaker will claim on the current Take That tour. Should be doing well anyway, although performing on popstar to Opera star is obviously so much better. If Erasure do sell a bit more sort of shows it was a good idea to me, but I personally don't think it will change much to be honest, if you need just 3,000 sales to be in the top 40 then 138 must be a few hundred or so sales for the week. So not particularly interesting it's fair to say, although if it was PSB I know somebody who'd say it was of course!

Just to correct you on one thing ;- 138 in the itunes chart, is not 138 in the official album chart. There are a few download charts ;- itunes, Amazon, HMV, Play and 7digital are the most common. Then you have the physical chart. At the end of the week, all download charts and physicals bought are combined to get the official album chart

Apparently they played one of their new songs at tonight's gig in Bristol.

"Didn't seem very catchy to me. Didn't seem like a single. Less of the Vince bleeps and was in a very different style from the other songs from the show. Much more "grungy", perhaps? Not Chorus-sounding, for sure. But unlike anything Erasure have done? More Depeche/dark than bleepy?"

I'm not knocking the bleeps and bloops - I like the Chorus, Love To Hate You, Am I Right?, Breath Of Life, Abbesque singles run - but that was 1991/92. 20 years on and they're talking about "the Vince bleeps"?

Yeah, they are obsessed with the bleeps and bloops. Fair enough i suppose. After all, it's their original sound that gave then their best songs. Sadly, they completely run out of idea's 15 years ago. Nightbird gave everyone hope, then they released that Light in the tunnel rubbish. Storm in a Teacup was a great song. The rest of the album was as exciting as stepping in dog shit.

The problem with the fans and what they want to hear, is that it doesn't matter what they serve up, they love it. If you criticise it, you are on borrowed time. They can't and will not accept any sort of negativity or criticism about anything. When the releases started to bomb, you were all of a sudden banned from posting any sales info ''incase low figures made fans go out and buy multiple copies they couldn't really afford.''

So, at the end of the day, i think fair to say that the opinions of the fans have maybe influenced the band's output. If the die hards are happy to lap anything up, Erasure are just going to plod along with the same old thing.

At least the vibes coming out of camp Erasure is that they have finally asked for a bit of help and teamed up with some modern pop stars. They have to at least try and get with the times and it appears they have made an effort. Keep the bleeps but do a bit more and lose the constant lyrics about w*** rags and being dumped. Word on the street is that the new song didn't raise much of an applause. Hopefully that's due to being shocked at the new sound, rather than bewildered.

Exactly - completely unreasonable. That's why I'm staggered that some of their fans appear to talk like this. This idea that bleeps and bloops comprised the original Erasure sound is ludicrous. Sometimes, Ship of Fools, The Circus, etc., had little in the way of electronic jelly tots. To speak of bleeps and bloops as the Erasure sound in 2011 is symptomatic of an obsolete musical direction. Are they really that moribund?
